Job description

We are searching for a Director or VP of Operations to join an industry leading organization. So if you're looking for the next step in your career, then here is a great opportunity.

The Vice President of Operations is primarily responsible for managing the company’s day-to-day operations within the region. Leveraging extensive experience in the manufacturing and reconditioning industry, this individual will apply a broad and up-to-date understanding of industry practices.

In this role, the Director of Operations will establish both short-term and long-term objectives, ensuring the achievement of company goals by effectively allocating resources, implementing processes, and ensuring adherence to protocols. This position also acts as a vital link between employees and senior leadership, providing direction and support to all direct reports.

A critical aspect of the role involves building and developing a high-performing management team responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s product and service delivery. The VP of Operations will be expected to lead with strategic insight, fostering operational excellence and team collaboration.

We are looking for people who would have relatable experience for a smooth transition, so preference of experience within : Recycling, Meat processing, or Waste is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Establish Objectives and Policies : Define company objectives and approve related policies and programs.
  • Coordinate Operations : Oversee the work of regions, divisions, and departments.
  • Organize Leadership : Authorize major departments and senior staff positions; build and develop an effective management team.
  • Talent Management : Recruit, coach, and discipline managers to improve effectiveness.
  • Resource Allocation : Allocate materials, finances, and personnel; establish financial and administrative controls.
  • Lean Manufacturing : Drive lean manufacturing concepts across processes.
  • Performance Monitoring : Review financial and operational reports to assess productivity and identify areas for improvement.
  • Cost Optimization : Implement cost reduction strategies to enhance efficiency and profitability.
  • Safety and Compliance : Ensure adherence to safety, environmental programs, and regulatory approvals.
  • Operational Oversight : Manage activities related to manufacturing, reconditioning, and product supply.
  • Property Management : Oversee leasing agreements for non-owned properties.
  • Representation : Represent or delegate company representation in negotiations and official functions.
  • Confidentiality : Protect proprietary information and ensure confidentiality.
  • Professional Development : Stay updated through education, networking, and professional activities.
  • Reputation Management : Uphold professionalism, diplomacy, and tact to maintain a positive company image.
  • Value Addition : Take ownership of new initiatives and explore ways to enhance organizational value.
  • Qualifications

  • 10+ years' experience in a managerial capacity in a manufacturing, heavy industrial, overseeing multiple plants
  • A degree or college diploma in engineering, business administration, commerce, or a relevant discipline
  • You have an excellent understanding of finance and management. You oversee, plan and allocate budgets and P&Ls
  • You have a proven record of performance with set goals
  • Excellent communication - oral, written and listening skills
  • You have excellent decision-making skills with the ability to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions and choose the appropriate option
  • Proven track record of identifying performance and actions needed to improve performance to achieve organizational goals
  • You have strong computer skills with experience working within the MS Office suite and other ERP software
  • Strong leadership capabilities including delegation, coaching, setting expectations, and monitoring direct reports' progress. You are also capable of motivating, inspiring and providing feedback to employees. On the flip side, you are coachable and able to receive feedback from all levels (above and below your rank)
  • You can prioritize, create plans and execute. You can work in an efficient manner
  • Approximately 50% travel will be required (mostly within Canada, but you will need to travel to the USA so you must have a valid passport for travel)
