Job description
Adecco is currently hiring a Signals & Communications Apprentice for a full-time opportunity with a leading rail transportation organization. This role is ideal for someone who is hands-on, mechanically and electrically inclined, and interested in building a long-term career in railway signal systems, communications infrastructure, and field-based technical work.
In this position, you will install, maintain, test, and repair railway signal and communications systems, ensuring safe and reliable rail operations across the network.

Responsibilities
  • Install, repair, maintain, test, and inspect signal systems and apparatus, including automatic blocks, traffic controls, train stops, train controls, cab signals, and interlocking systems
  • Perform construction duties, including digging holes and trenches to lay cables, wiring apparatus, setting piers, and installing equipment
  • Perform highway grade crossing protection and automatic classification yard work
  • Use a wide variety of hand tools, bonding rail, and testing signal plans, including on-track high-rail equipment and test instruments to bury cable and wire equipment
  • Ensure a safe working environment by following all safety policies and procedures
Requirements
  • Must be eligible to work and reside within Canada
  • Grade 12 Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
  • Successful completion of our clients' apprenticeship program, including in-class theory, laboratory work, and hands-on field training
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Ability to collaborate and maintain positive interactions with others
  • Ability to work independently, stay organized, and maintain schedules
  • Ability to understand and apply electrical, electronic, and mechanical principles
  • Ability to follow safety procedures, apply critical thinking, and maintain safety awareness
  • Ability to make effective decisions in unfamiliar locations and changing work conditions
  • Ability to assess condition of equipment for wear and defects
  • Meets standards for quality, productivity, and client satisfaction
  • Good hand-eye coordination
  • Strong climbing and balancing ability for field installations and maintenance
  • Knowledge of signals or Rail Operating Rules
  • Basic computer knowledge
Assets
  • Completion of a Bachelor's Degree or a 2-3 year college program in Electronics, Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics*
  • *Any designation for the above would be considered as an asset
Working Conditions
  • Must be available for shift work, including nights and weekends
  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures
  • Exposure to dust, noise, fumes, vibrations, and uneven terrain
  • Must meet medical fitness for duty requirements
  • Must be able to work at heights and perform physically demanding tasks
  • Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs and occasional lifting up to 85 lbs
  • Must be available to work in remote or isolated locations away from home
