ABOUT THE JUSTICE EDUCATION SOCIETY (JES)
The Justice Education Society of British Columbia (JES) is a non-profit organization with over 36 years of experience providing public legal education and justice system capacity building in Canada and overseas. In Canada, JES helps more than 700,000 British Columbians learn about our justice system and address their legal issues.
Internationally, JES has programs in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Panama and Guyana which work with national institutions to strengthen justice systems, access to justice and citizen security. JES has offices in Canada, Guatemala, and Honduras and diverse sources of funding including donors and provincial, federal and overseas governments. THE ROLE
We are seeking a Instructor- Curriculum Developer with strong educational expertise and a passion for access to justice. The successful candidate will design and pilot engaging legal education materials for youth and create curriculum resources for BC teachers. They will also support the development and delivery of legal education to multilingual communities and help support our train the trainer initiatives.
THE PROJECTS
Youth Legal Capability Project
A 2.5 year project, JES will design and pilot nine lesson plans to build youth legal capability. The Instructor-Curriculum Developer will :
- Co-create lessons with youth, teachers, and JES staff.
- Pilot lessons with students (50 sessions annually).
- Evaluate and refine lessons to ensure they are interactive and effective.
- Train 150 teachers annually to deliver lessons.
Ask JES Multilingual Project
This initiative delivers legal education workshops in multiple languages to immigrant and newcomer communities across BC. The project provides plain-language legal information and builds community capacity to respond to legal issues. The Instructor-Curriculum Developer will :
