City of Red DeerRed Deer, ABThe Opportunity :
The primary function of this position, through tactical and strategic analysis is to produce, prepare and disseminate a variety of information relevant to actual or anticipated local criminal activity in order to increase operational effectiveness, prevent crime and apprehend suspects. The position also provides assistance for Policing Services strategic planning by identifying, gathering and preparing information related to statistics, demographics and projections. Provides mentorship and direction to less experienced Analysts when required.
As our preferred candidate, you will have :
- Post-secondary education – Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline; Criminology, Criminal Justice, Police Science, Statistics, Mathematics or related fields
- A minimum of Five (5) years’ experience in policing or government environment that clearly demonstrates increasing responsibility in crime analysis and research.
- Two (2) years directly related Crime Analysis experience in a policing environment and / or Business related analytical experience may be considered.
- Organizational and planning skills to develop, initiate, prioritize and manage analytical responsibilities of a variety of constantly-changing scopes and timelines while ensuring a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Able to think critically and innovatively to effectively analyze data, see linkages and patterns (e.g. criminal activity), and problem-solve.
- Able to research, analyze and retain details of current crime patterns, create and present concise and effective criminal activity reports, presentations and other communication material with limited preparation time.
- Proven public speaking and presentation skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) to interact and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Adept in the use of "i2" analytical software, Police information systems (PROS, JOIN, IIS, CPIC, ROADS), open source research, the internet, GeoTime and Arc GIS Mapping.
- Knowledge of applicable and relevant legislation at all levels. Must be well versed and highly knowledgeable in the statutes and laws of Canada, including but not limited to The Criminal Code of Canada, Provincial and Federal Statutes, and Municipal Bylaws. Familiarity with the City of Red Deer RCMP policies and Detachment practices will be an asset.
- Able to obtain (and retain) a RCMP issued Top Secret Security Clearance.
- PROS Certificate(s) – User and Records Management Course, or successfully passing the course when offered.
- Advanced knowledge and experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Advanced Level and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Able to work independently with little supervision, with strong decision making capabilities and critical problem solving skills, able to multi-task and prioritize, and able to remain calm in emergency and stressful situations
- Able to discretely handle sensitive information while maintaining confidentiality
- Must possess excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to be self-motivated.

Remuneration :
50.59 to $53.25 per hour.
Hours of Work :
75 hours biweekly, shift work Monday to Friday. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
