The University of Victoria invites candidates to apply for the role of Security Officer in the Campus Security Services department. Together with the full Campus Security Services team, Security Officers are essential for ensuring a safe, secure, and inclusive campus environment.

• This posting is for one regular position, the creation of an eligibility list for future vacancies as well as hiring on call security officer positions.

Hours of work vary based on operational demand, campus events, and time of year. Shifts may be up to 12 hours in length and include days, nights, and weekends. We welcome applicants who are new to the field of campus and community safety as well as experienced safety professionals. CUPE 917 salary rates for this opportunity are as follows :

A Security Officer with First Aid earns $29.93 per hour, plus shift premiums of $2.27 per hour for night shift and $4.49 per hour for weekend shifts.

Job Summary :

Campus Security Services is a department within the Vice President Finance and Operations portfolio that provides security, personal safety, emergency planning, parking and motor pool services to the campus community at the University of Victoria. In providing these services, Campus Security contributes to creating a safe, secure and welcoming campus for all and to the overall mission of the University by providing exceptional customer service in all aspects of the operation. The critical nature of these services are provided 24 / 7 / 365.

The Security Officer reports to the Patrol Manager and designated Team Leader and is responsible for providing impartial security services that enhance personal safety and protection for all members of the University Community, responding to security concerns in a service-oriented manner, investigating complaints and incidents, and ensuring compliance with security standards and university policies to maintain a secure campus environment.

Specialized Knowledge / Education :

The following are required prior to commencement of employment and must be maintained as a condition of employment :

Experience :

Preferred backgrounds in law enforcement, firefighting, ambulance service, search and rescue, mental health worker or a customer service industry background.
