SHIFT : 35 Hours per week

About the Position :

Reporting to the Senior Director, Facilities, the Officer, Facilities will be assigned a portfolio of BC SPCA building systems to ensure the performance of regular and emergency maintenance activities as well as the completion of long-range planning / replacement activities. This position will work closely with location managers and other Facilities staff. In addition, this position may assist with the planning, coordination, and successful completion of assigned BC SPCA construction projects.

Some specific duties :

Facility Planning & Maintenance :

Plans and managesmaintenance activities for an assigned portfolio of building systems at existing BC SPCA facilities :

Ensures regular maintenance of all BC SPCA facilities is undertaken.

Creates a system to ensure that a facility inspection is undertaken at each BC SPCA facility on an annual basis.

Assists with developing and updatingthe Long Range Facilities Plan comprising long, medium, and short-term needs for each existing BC SPCA facility, with specific emphasis on ensuring health and safety requirements, structural integrity and efficient mechanical systems as well as animal welfare at all facilities.

Provides input into budgets during the planning phase as it relates to facility maintenance.

Addresses and prioritizes any identified building component health and safety issues as well as any animal welfare concerns related to facilities on an on-going basis.

Regularly liaises with experts in the construction industry as well as with internal departments to ensure that the BC SPCA Technical Guidelines and Performance Specifications remain up to date.

Regularly measures energy consumption at all BC SPCA facilities.

Maintains effective public relations when liaising with stakeholders around building-related issues; stakeholders will generally include government officials, contractors, vendors / sales persons, all BC SPCA staff, volunteers, and the general public.

Ensures that all facility development activities are conducted consistently, ethically and to the highest standards within the overall mission of the Society.

Coordinates and / or advises on potential impacts of project activities affecting facility operations.

Assists with maintaining the asset management system for all locations; including, but not limited to collection of data, pricing, request and work order tracking.

Facility Construction :

As required, assists with capital projects for new facilities or modifications to existing facilities.

Ensures that mechanisms are in place that allow for ready access to information by all departments (as appropriate) on capital projects undertaken; provides regular update reports, as directed.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications you need to have :

Post-secondary education in a related field plus 5-8 years’of relevant maintenanceexperience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the Employer.

Working knowledge of all building maintenance trades and professionals related to the position.

Knowledge of applicable legalities including, but not limited to, the BC Building Code, WorkSafeBC regulations, Fire Code of Canada and Federal, Provincial, and Municipal legislation related to facilities construction, operation, and maintenance.

Knowledge of animal sheltering and experience in a multi-facility operation preferable.

Demonstrated ability to organize work, meet priorities and to work within a demanding work schedule with minimal supervision.

Strong relationship building skills; excellent communication skills and an ability to relate respectfully to a diverse audience

Strong conflict resolution skills.

Computer skills – MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, MS Teams and familiarity with asset management systems

Must have a valid Class 5 BC Drivers’ License and be willing / able to regularly travel throughout the province.

Must have a genuine compassion for animals and philosophical harmony with the mission and vision of the BC SPCA.
