What’s in it for you

We’ve got the purpose, the people and the perks you need for a fulfilling career. Here’s the comprehensive and generous benefits you get when you’re a permanent employee:

  • Annual Paid vacation.
  • Annual individual performance incentive.
  • Defined benefit pension plan.
  • Comprehensive group insurance plan to support your well-being from day one.
  • Support towards your personal and professional growth with training, mentorship and more.
  • An inclusive workplace culture and environment.
  • While positions at CMHC require some in-office presence, alternative work arrangements may be considered for Indigenous candidates.

About the role

Join the Data team, in the Analyst, Business Systems position. The role involves the delivery of data services and products to both internal and external clients through effective systems analysis and design, modeling, programming and data manipulation. The ideal candidate will have solid programming and analytical skills and can also understand client needs and translate this into useful data. This is a challenging and exciting role for someone who is passionate about data and wants to make a difference in the housing sector.

What you’ll do:

  • Support business-as-usual production of various data products and reports (includes production of static data tables in Excel, Power BI dashboards, and flat files for website applications such as the Housing Market Information Portal).
  • Perform programming and quantitative analysis services on research or policy issues by accessing internal and external data sources, integrating and reconciling data from alternate sources, analyzing and disseminating results in order to respond to client custom data requests.
  • Identify where automation could create more efficient data related processes and implementing those efficiencies in end-user systems.
  • Introduce new and follow existing quality assurance processes to ensure that all disseminated products contain accurate data and are of high quality.
  • Maintain definitions and descriptions of data produced, stored and used by Data Division; ensure good process documentation.
  • Assist with Data Division technology and data transformation projects: this involves migrating large data sets from legacy systems (Mainframe, SAS datasets) to Azure Databricks platform as well as modernizing and automating data ingestion, processing, quality assurance and dissemination.
  • Assist in transforming legacy SAS code to other programming languages and data processing frameworks, including Python and PySpark.

What you should have:

  • An undergraduate degree in a quantitative discipline: computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, data analysis/science, engineering, or related quantitative field.
  • A minimum 3 years of relevant programming and quantitative analysis experience.
  • Advanced skills in Excel.
  • Intermediate to advanced programming skills in Python, including Pandas and NumPy.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in SQL: ability to write complex queries, including JOINs and subqueries.
  • The ability to work with Apache Spark and/or PySpark.
  • Familiar with Azure Databricks and Azure DevOps.
  • Collaborative team player with strong customer service, interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.

It would be great if you also had:

  • Intermediate to advanced skills in SAS (experience working with SAS statistical software suite to perform programming tasks is considered an asset).
  • Working knowledge of AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, GitHub Copilot, Databricks Genie) to support data analysis, code development, reporting, and operational efficiency.
  • Some project management experience/exposure acquired through being a subject matter expert on small to medium-sized technology projects.
  • A master’s degree in the above disciplines is considered an asset.

Posting closing date: Note, the competition will remain active until filled.
