Job description

Vice President, Governance and Communications

Community Living BC

Location : South Vancouver, BC

Since 2005, Community Living British Columbia (CLBC) has been helping individuals with developmental disabilities and their families have “communities of belonging and lives with connection.” CLBC originated from a grassroots movement led by families and self-advocates who worked with government to create a government body responsive to their unique needs. Today, mandated under the Community Living Authority Act and subject to government policy, and reporting to the Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction through a dedicated Board of Directors, CLBC provides eligible adults with individualized programs and services ranging from home supports and services for individual and family wellbeing, to employment, community inclusion and skill development. Its mandate is not only to build inclusion and provide quality opportunities to individuals and families, but to help create communities in which people with developmental disabilities have more choices about how they live, work, and contribute.

Reporting to the CEO, the Vice President, Governance and Communications, provides strategic leadership for CLBC’s governance, communications and community engagement. The Vice President leads the development of media, public relations and strategic communications strategies as well as oversees the corporate governance framework including policy, strategic planning processes, accountability plans and reporting (including Service Plan and Mandate letter development and reporting) in close consultation with the Executive Team, the Board and the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction.

The ideal candidate brings extensive senior leadership experience in developing and implementing communications and community engagement strategies, formulating and implementing policies and programs, and building and managing key organizational relationships. Close work with Boards of Directors, government entities and sector shareholders will be key, as will be a track record of “issues management”, ideally from within complex public sector environment. Senior leadership experience working in the community living sector and / or broader social services will be considered an asset.

Working with a committed Board of Directors and a high functioning, team-oriented senior management team, this is a rare and compelling opportunity to advance an important mandate on behalf of all adults with developmental disabilities and their families in British Columbia.

This role is based in South Vancouver, BC (Airport Square Office Tower near 70th Avenue and Granville Street) on the unceded traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.

CLBC is committed to hiring based on merit with a focus on fostering diversity of thought. CLBC welcomes candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and encourage applications from equity-seeking groups such as women, persons with diverse ethnic, racial or Indigenous backgrounds, gender identity and sexual orientation, and persons with a disability. However, all qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.
