Job description

CAMH has a number of current career opportunities for you to consider. Select a job title to view the description and apply online.

Clinical Informatics Nurse - Information Management Group

Through its core values of Courage, Respect and Excellence , CAMH is implementing its Strategic Plan : Connected CAMH, to transform lives, ignite innovation and discovery, revolutionize education and drive social change. CAMH is more than a hospital, it is a cause. CAMH is on a mission to change the way society thinks about and responds to mental illness. They aim to eliminate prejudice and discrimination and shape a world where mental illness is central to our healthcare system – a world where Mental Health is Health.

We are currently seeking a full-time, temporary (12 months) Clinical Informatics Nurse. The Clinical Informatics Nurse (CIN) educates and supports physicians and interprofessional clinical staff in the adoption of CAMH’s electronic health record (I-CARE) and other IMG-supported clinical applications. Acting as a key liaison between IMG and CAMH interprofessional clinical staff, the CIN also collaborates with both internal (e.g. Professional Practice, EPMO) and external stakeholders (e.g. vendors, TAHSN hospitals) to support other relevant initiatives at CAMH.

Reporting to the Chief Clinical Informatics Officer, the Clinical Informatics Nurse is responsible for developing and maintaining education materials, delivering training and providing ongoing support for I-CARE and other IMG-supported clinical applications. Through participation on committees, working groups and project teams, the CIN collaborates with others to support projects, process improvement, and mandated initiatives, focusing on system optimization, uptake of best practices, and adoption of I-CARE and IMG-supported clinical applications.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide I-CARE and IMG-supported application education for staff including physicians, new hires, residents, students and others.
  • Provide in-person, telephone, virtual and email supports to physicians, interprofessional clinicians and others in the use of I-CARE and IMG-supported applications.
  • Develop workplace supports for the use of I-CARE and IMG-supported applications, such as ‘quick reference cards’, ‘how to’ documents, and videos in alignment with organizational and practice needs.
  • Create e-learning tutorials and supports for I-CARE and IMG-supported applications.
  • Develop, maintain, and deliver in-person and virtual classroom curriculum.
  • Maintain content of training and support websites related to I-CARE education.
  • Perform administrative duties as they relate to training and education for the use of I-CARE and IMG-supported applications.
  • Provide clinical needs, workflow analysis and design recommendations for various IMG projects.
  • Support the use of I-CARE and IMG-supported applications with interprofessional clinical staff through ongoing communication (e.g. newsletter, updates), assessments, and ‘just in time’ support (e.g. in the clinic / on the unit).
  • Provide support for special initiatives such as project implementations, system downtimes, external assessments / reviews (Accreditation), etc.
  • Work collaboratively with professional practice staff to develop materials and provide training that incorporate both practice standards and functionality as it relates to the use of I-CARE and IMG-supported applications.

You will support a healthy workplace that embraces equity and diversity; encourage teamwork; promote learning and scholarship; and comply with all applicable standards and requirements. This position will be required to work across CAMH sites and as needed, provide support during various shifts including days, evenings, nights and weekends.

Minimum Requirements :

  • Registered Nurse with good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (e.g. BN, BScN, BNSc).
  • Formal health or nursing informatics education is preferred (e.g. certificate, course, master’s degree etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of Cerner Millennium is preferred.
  • Relevant clinical experience in mental health is preferred.
  • Proven experience teaching and supporting clinicians in the use of electronic clinical applications coupled with effective leadership, decision-making, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to combine clinical experience, best practice and software knowledge to provide effective education, support and input on organizational initiatives.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to develop and effectively deliver classroom, on-unit, one-to-one and web-based training for groups of various sizes.
  • Strong knowledge of CAMH clinical workflows, and / or mental health related workflows.
  • Hold a current BCLS (CPR).
  • Ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Bilingualism (French / English) or proficiency in a second language is an asset.
  • If you are interested in this position, please ensure that you apply before 5pm of the closing date. If your application is received past 5pm of the closing date, your application will not be accepted.

CAMH is a fully affiliated teaching hospital and research institute of the University of Toronto. As a CAMH employee, you will contribute to our mission by supporting teaching, research, and clinical care across the hospital.

CAMH is dedicated to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Our commitment is to foster a workplace, teaching, and learning environment that is inclusive, respectful, and free from discrimination or harassment.

CAMH strongly encourages applications from candidates who reflect the diversity of the communities we serve, including First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples; Black and other racialized communities; LGBTQ2S+ communities; women; and people with disabilities, including those with lived experience of mental health and substance use challenges.
