Job description
Job Description

We are currently seeking a qualified Project Manager to join our construction team, based out of Saskatoon or Bethune, SK. As we continue to expand our national footprint, we’re proud to build a long‑term presence in Saskatoon. Our new Saskatoon office is a strategic cornerstone in our multi‑sector growth plan, enabling us to support mining, energy transition, and industrial projects across Saskatchewan and Western Canada. By joining Bantrel, you become part of a team shaping the future, strengthening project capability, opening new opportunities, and building on our long‑standing experience in potash and mining across the province. You’ll be part of an organization committed to Saskatchewan for the long term.

Bantrel is working with K+S Potash Canada (K+S) as an Integrated Project Management Team (IPMT) to expand production at K+S’s Bethune solution potash mine near Moose Jaw and Regina, Saskatchewan. The final production capacity is intended to grow over the next decades to 4M tonnes per year, doubling the current production output of potash. Key team members will support the project from the K+S head office in Saskatoon and at Bethune mine, with additional support from Calgary, Edmonton, and Toronto as required.

Site based roles: This position is based in Bethune, SK. While the preference is to hire a candidate who resides locally, relocation assistance may be available based or eligibility or Living Out Allowance (LOA).

Join us in this full-time permanent role and be a champion of diversity and inclusion.

As a Project Manager within the IPMT, you will play a pivotal role in advancing a major EPC project that supports the continued expansion of the Bethune operation and strengthen our growing project delivery presence in Saskatchewan. This position requires a seasoned leader who can drive disciplined planning, integrate multidiscipline teams, and ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution across all phases of project delivery.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the project lifecycle from concept through closeout, including planning, engineering, procurement, construction, project performance management, start‑up, performance testing, and handover to operations.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements, quality standards, health & safety obligations, and client performance expectations across all phases.
  • Act as the principal point of contact for the client and internal leadership, maintaining strong relationships and timely communications throughout the project.
  • Direct and supervise multidisciplinary project teams; set priorities, allocate resources, and provide clear guidance to meet scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Make timely decisions on project matters, including escalation and resolution of issues that require direct intervention.
  • Report to senior leadership on progress, risks, variances, and mitigation plans; prepare and present status reports and performance dashboards.
  • Manage EPC execution plans, commissioning readiness, and turnover documentation to operations.
  • Oversee contractor performance and manage change orders, claims, and commercial terms in alignment with the contract.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver major capital projects in accordance with contractual obligations, quality standards, cost targets, and safety requirements, consistently meeting client expectations.
  • Strong analytical and decision‑making skills, with a history of resolving complex technical, commercial, and schedule‑related issues under tight time and budget constraints.
  • Proven leadership experience overseeing multidisciplinary project teams and providing structured reporting to senior leadership in EPC/EPCM environments.
  • Exceptional stakeholder‑management and communication skills, with experience serving as the primary client interface and representing the project with partners, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Collaborative working style, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with engineering, construction, project controls, commercial teams, and external vendors.
  • 10-15 years of progressive project management experience in heavy industrial, energy, infrastructure, or major capital project environments.
  • Post‑secondary engineering or technical education (engineering degree or engineering technology diploma preferred); PMP or equivalent considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of project delivery models (EPC/EPCM) and experience with formal stage‑gate development processes.
  • Proficiency in project controls, including earned value management (EVM), forecasting, risk assessment, schedule development, and change management.
  • Experience leading projects from FEL through execution and turnover, including engineering, procurement, contracting, construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide cross‑functional teams, shape contracting strategies, negotiate commercial terms, and manage vendor performance in alignment with scope, cost, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Commitment to safety excellence, fostering a culture of risk awareness and continuous improvement.
