JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Planning and Scheduling Technician.

Reporting to the Planning Officer, this position is responsible for providing technical planning, scheduling, and cost control support by developing work sequences, monitoring progress, identifying and resolving issues, coordinating resources, and maintaining accurate documentation to support safe and efficient project execution.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide technical planning assistance to various groups; recommend logical work sequences and appropriate cost/resource allocation for designated work orders/projects based on collaboration, procedures, and historical programs/schedules.
  • Identify and resolve potential problems; recommend improvements to processes, work sequences, and resource allocation.
  • Provide scheduling and cost control services by monitoring market conditions, prices, and volumes to develop final logic and to prepare/maintain cost flow, resource-level schedules, daily work programs, critical path network diagrams, long-term work plans, cost estimates, and resource allocations.
  • Initiate appropriate applications for work protection; review drawings and obtain material requirements and requisitions as required.
  • Monitor schedule and work program progress, including job site visits; troubleshoot non-standard outputs and identify variances in schedule, cost estimates, or resource allocations using meeting discussions and work management system reports.
  • Facilitate meetings and record minutes; follow up on outstanding items and provide status reports and projections.
  • Prepare diagrams, reports, and networks reflecting planned work, sequencing, timelines, and resource constraints; initiate material orders and expedite as required, advising where materials do not meet specifications (e.g., obsolescence/non-standardization).
  • Prepare and maintain records for official documentation purposes; support approved information/work management system improvements by specifying, testing, implementing changes, and developing/modifying report generators to meet reporting needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Grade 12, plus up to two years of study in a related field, (*or international equivalents) plus either a trades apprenticeship or operating training.
  • Mechanical/Electrical trades apprenticeship completed
  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience in a planning and scheduling role
  • Knowledge of installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of industrial machinery and equipment in production plants and power generation assets, including hydroelectric generating equipment

OPG may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools as part of the applicant screening process. However, applications will also be reviewed by a member of our Recruitment team to ensure a fair and thorough assessment.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods. Maintaining a high-performance culture and excellence is a core expectation of every member of our leadership team and is rewarded through the established compensation framework.

OPG is committed to employment equity. As such, we encourage applicants from equity-seeking communities (Indigenous Peoples, racialized persons, persons with disabilities, and women). We strongly believe that alleviating the under-representation of equity-seeking individuals will create a stronger OPG team and allow us to better serve the needs of our diverse communities.

In order to fulfill the above-mentioned purpose, priority in hiring may be given to qualified persons who self-identify as a member of equity-seeking groups as identified in the application process. This initiative constitutes a special program under the Human Rights Code/Canadian Human Rights Act.
