Job description

Maritime Electric Company, Limited is seeking candidates for the position of Project Engineer (Two-year Term).

The Project Engineer will be responsible for providing project management and technical oversight for renewable energy projects under development by the Company.

The Project Engineer will work closely with various stakeholders, contractors, collaborators, and other members of the team to lead renewable energy projects with a focus on sustainability and engineering principles that align with electrification, climate change and Company goals. The position will plan and manage predevelopment activities by leading consulting work for engineering design and studies, as well as, overseeing project funding, budget, progress reporting, and project work by other members of the team. They will develop applications for funding programs on behalf of the Company and project partners. The position will manage project design consulting through collaboration with other internal departments and be responsible for oversight and quality control of field and engineering, procurement, and construction contractor work.

The position’s responsibilities include but are not limited to providing engineering and technical expertise, contract administration, consultant oversight and project management for renewable energy projects to ensure completion dates, budget, and highest quality requirements are met. Coordinating and supervising projects, preparing cost estimates, project specifications, scheduling and contracts. Oversee planning, environmental permitting, tendering and on-site supervision of the contractor project work as well as design review, report writing and coordination of project documentation requests, reporting, and auditing requirements.

  • Skills and knowledge requirements include but are not limited to :
  • Superior communication, technical writing, organization and project management skills.
  • Ability to produce high quality results while working independently or as part of a team.
  • Commitment to guard against bias and minimize barriers to promote inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility in day-to-day activities.
  • Effective use of project management programs, such as spreadsheets and Gantt charts.
  • Knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment used in the construction, operation, and maintenance of power generation equipment or utility transmission and distribution.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions for construction activities.
  • Working knowledge and use of AutoCAD is an asset.

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or equivalent preferred). Registration as Professional Engineer or ability to become registered in PEI and a minimum of eight years of related experience working in engineering, project management and development is required. Experience in utility, electric power generation, or electrical transmission and distribution is an asset.

This position offers a competitive and comprehensive compensation and benefits package. The pay range for this position is between $100,000 and $125,000 per annum.
