With 13 locations supporting 16 business divisions in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, BC, and Minnesota, AFG works with contractors, regional dealers, residential and commercial builders and operates in building component manufacturing, building materials supply and building construction projects industry sectors.  AFG continually invests in its people, process, equipment, and technology to ensure continued success in the building construction industry.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the CFO, the Director, Information Technology is a member of the AFG senior leadership team and will be accountable for overseeing the use of Information Technology in the company. The successful incumbent will be responsible for AFG’s IT strategy and ensure that all systems to support the operations and objectives are in place.

Key Responsibilities Include :

  • Provide technology vision and leadership for the IT Department.
  • Develop strategic plans that utilize information technology and align with the goals of the business.
  • Recommend and implement optimal technology to streamline all internal operations and optimize the strategic benefits.
  • Assess all areas of IT services and skill regarding outsourcing versus in-house delivery.
  • Design and customize technological systems and platforms to improve customer experience, both internal and external.
  • Plan the implementation of new and existing systems and provide guidance to IT professionals and other staff within the organization.
  • Approve purchases of technological equipment and software and establish partnerships with IT providers.
  • Oversee the technological infrastructure (network and computer systems) in the organization to ensure optimal performance.
  • Develop and administer best practices for master data management.
  • Lead and direct IT related projects.
  • Further expand policies and procedures and review existing documentation.
  • Monitor changes or advancements in technology to discover ways the company can gain competitive advantages.
  • Analyze information technology costs, value, and risks to advise management and recommend actions.
  • Lead and develop IT personnel to ensure the needs to the business are met.

Selection Criteria include :

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering or related discipline.
  • 10+ years progressively senior experience in IT Leadership.
  • Experience in Manufacturing with multiple locations.
  • Experience in designing / developing IT systems and implementation.
  • Solid understanding of data analysis, budgeting and business operations.
  • Strong interpersonal and project management skills
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
