Location : The Steve and Sally Family Stavro YMCA Health & Fitness Center

Work Hours : 37.5 hours per week

Employment Type : Seasonal Contract Hourly (March Break Camp)

Number of Vacancies : 1

Anticipated Start Date : March 10, 2025

Be the Spark! Join our dynamic Health & Fitness Team, where every day is different, and you will always be engaged with meaningful work!

As a Health and Fitness Camp Counselor, you will work during winter break to lead a group of children through fun, age-appropriate and engaging activities in an indoor setting, while ensuring the children’s safety. You will ensure that camp participants have a positive experience in a friendly, safe and welcoming environment. You will also help encourage participants and their families to access additional appropriate programs offered at this location.

In this role, you will :

  • Plan and deliver age-appropriate activities and games for participants.
  • Take attendance, ensure participants are signed into and out of the program.
  • Set up and take down recreational, program and other equipment as required – at the same time checking that equipment is safe and in good repair (reporting immediately all malfunctions and removing the damaged equipment immediately from circulation).
  • Actively participate in recreational swim daily, while ensuring a safe aquatics experience for children.
  • In collaboration with individual program members, program volunteers and YMCA program staff, assist and encourage program members to access additional appropriate programs offered at this location.
  • Perform other related duties to fulfill commitment to quality programs for all members as assigned from time to time by supervisor.

You bring :

  • Current certification in the following award : Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid and CPR level C
  • Experience working with children and youth in a recreational setting an asset
  • The minimum age to apply for this position is 16 years old
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
  • Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, including weekday mornings and afternoons throughout the Winter Break
