Job Purpose : The Category Manager is responsible for driving the overall portfolio strategy, sales growth and profitability and performance for an assigned category of products and vendors.

Principal Responsibilities :

  • Strategic planning, execution and maintenance of business goals to achieve sales & profitability targets for the category.
  • Competitive analysis of market landscape, trends and threats to ensure the category is aligned and positioned within the industry (pricing, images, communication of features & benefits, etc.).
  • Identify and build a plan around potential portfolio gaps to enhance the category offering.
  • Establish vendor training for internal and external teams to educate on branding, technical and commercial product features and benefits.
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors at the appropriate levels, negotiate programs, conduct pricing reviews, identify promotional opportunities and activities, and lead business meetings .
  • Collaborate with our internal marketing promotions and e-commerce teams to implement effective promotional activities to drive sales.
  • Collaborate with our purchasing team by preparing purchase proposals for new product introductions / vendor programs; establish plans for slow moving inventory, etc.
  • Develop relationships with sales management and specialty teams to position and promote strategies, products and vendors.
  • In addition to the above key responsibilities, the Category Manager will also be required to :

  • Coach, guide and provide support to the Associate Category Managers.
  • Manage rebates / claims, product obsolescences, web content integrity, etc.
  • Carry out other responsibilities required in order to meet changing business needs.
  • Qualifications :

  • 3+ years category or vendor management experience.
  • Business university degree or certificate in Business / Marketing or relevant, an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills - written, verbal and presentation.
  • Attention to detail, exceptional problem solving and decision-making abilities, able to multi-task and manage time effectively.
  • Team player, ability to collaborate, lead and manage respectfully.
  • MS Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word (intermediate to advanced knowledge).
  • Bilingual (French and English
  • spoken and written. (
