What this role is all about :

Reporting to the Chief Growth Officer, the VP, Consumer Banking is the business line leader responsible for leading and directing the credit union’s consumer banking sales, service delivery and business development activities while ensuring that the credit union effectively balances its goals and objectives for growth, member retention, depth of relationship, member experience / loyalty and the profitability of its consumer business operations. This role will be responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, management, and performance of our consumer banking operations. This business line leader role requires extensive experience in retail banking, a strong understanding of market trends, and a proven track record in driving business growth. The VP will work closely with senior management to develop and implement strategies that enhance customer experience, optimize financial performance, and expand our market presence.

What you'll do :

People and Organizational Leadership

  • Functional Leadership : Oversee consumer banking operations across all regions.
  • Team Leadership and Coaching : Provide leadership and coaching to direct reports to maximize sales, member experience, business and community development, and operational performance.
  • Employee Engagement : Maintain high employee engagement through effective communication, regular coaching, and mentorship. Accountable for achieving high Employee Opinion survey results and employee retention levels.
  • Succession Planning : Develop succession plans for key positions and ensure personal development plans are completed and implemented for internal candidates aspiring to advance their careers.
  • Staff Training and Motivation : Train, motivate, and lead staff to ensure exceptional service is provided to members and branch employees, meeting the needs of both the organization and individuals.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration : Proactively collaborate and engage with other cross-functional leaders to jointly plan and execute enterprise-wide initiatives.
  • Budget and Business Planning : Align, coordinate, and execute all budget-related and business planning activities as per organizational cycles.
  • Communication and Employee Experience : Contribute to a member-centric, healthy, sustainable, and engaging employee experience through consistent and effective communication.
  • Collaborative Environment : Create a collaborative atmosphere and support a learning culture.
  • Professional Development : Oversee professional development and coaching plans for all direct reports.

Consumer Advice and Sales

  • Financial Product Advice : Provide financial product advice and sales to consumer members, supporting them in achieving their financial goals and improving their overall financial wellbeing, while ensuring the sustainability of Beem.
  • Process Documentation : Ensure all sales and service-related processes, procedures, and protocols are well documented and communicated.
  • Compliance and Audit Implementation : Ensure effective and timely implementation of all compliance and internal audit findings, adhering to corporate policies.
  • Performance Assessment : Assess the performance of consumer sales teams and develop insights and recommendations for improvement.
  • Functional Leadership : Act as the functional head for all aspects of consumer banking operations.
  • Profitability Management : Ensure long and short-term profitability by maximizing revenues, controlling expenses, and evaluating business unit and employee performance.
  • Strategy Development and Planning

  • Execution Strategy : Lead the development and execution of strategies for a wide range of sales, service, and operational initiatives.
  • Operational Strategy : Contribute to all areas of operational strategy, including performance and implementation.
  • Annual Operating Plans : Develop and contribute to annual operating plans for consumer banking, overseeing their effective implementation and execution.
  • Local Business Development : Lead and direct local business development strategies to grow the business, capture market share, and increase awareness of Beem Credit Union.
  • Corporate Engagement : Serve as a key contact for various corporate projects, initiatives, and committees.
  • Business Forecasting : Play a lead role in business forecasting, developing annual operating plans and budgets.
  • Pipeline Management : Oversee local business development initiatives with a focus on building and sustaining an effective pipeline of lending and deposits to meet annual operating plan objectives.
  • Member Referrals : Ensure effective member referral pipelines to other lines of business to fully optimize member value and deepen relationships.
  • Technological Advancements : Embrace technological advancements for stronger data-driven decision-making, quickly integrating new insights into strategic planning and execution.
  • Member Experience and Loyalty

  • High-Performance Sales Culture : Collaborate with leaders and staff in Consumer Banking to develop and implement a high-performance sales culture that consistently delivers the Member / Client first strategy. Ensure member needs are identified and fulfilled by knowledgeable and experienced resources providing trusted advice and exceptional service.
  • Direction and Standards : Provide direction, implement, and audit member experience practices, protocols, and standards for reporting teams.
  • Issue Resolution : Respond to member concerns, complaints, and issues promptly.
  • Proactive Solutions : Identify potential member experience issues proactively and ensure timely implementation of solutions.
  • Collaborative Relationships : Maintain strong collaborative relationships with external partners, agencies, and vendors to ensure the successful execution of initiatives.
  • Minimum Requirements :

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant or related field, or a combination of experience and post-secondary education. MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years in a management capacity within consumer banking.
  • Knowledge and understanding of financial statements and the impact of decision-making at the enterprise level.
  • Familiarity with Standards of Sound Business Practices and the Credit Union Act and Regulations.
  • Demonstrated levels of self-awareness, including acknowledgment of personal biases to mitigate their influence in business activities and decisions.
  • Advanced emotional intelligence and agility, evidenced by strong interpersonal relationships with key stakeholders.
