Employment Type : Full-time Department : Seniors and Children & Youth Services Union : Included (CUPE Local 2497) Salary : Level 1 - $21.19 File # : 25- SCY-02 Posting Date : January 02, 2025 Posting Close : January 16, 2025 Position Summary Reporting to the Supervisor, Assisted Living and Home Support Snr, the Home Support Worker (HSW) assists residents who are frail or ill to complete activities of daily living. The HSW follows a pre-determined service plan that usually involves a combination of cleaning and essential homemaking tasks. The HSW may be required to work with clients who smoke in their home, who have pets in the home, or who are experiencing bedbug infestations. The HSW will is also responsible for observing and reporting any changes in residents’ health or social status and for keeping records of each resident’s service plan and they responds to all requests for emergency assistance and is responsible for assessing the type of emergency and intervention required. The HSW should be capable of working with clients of diverse social, cultural, and language backgrounds. Duties and Responsibilities Completing household management tasks such as laundry, grocery shopping, bed-making, washroom cleaning, vacuuming, mopping and meal preparation. Providing emergency first aid and / or CPR until EMS arrives, when required. Receiving monies, issuing receipts, submitting payments to Supervisor. Record-keeping responsibilities : entering data each shift in the electronic data system. Keep the Care Coordinator and / or Manager up-to-date on changes in resident’s situation. Complete paperwork and / or administrative duties as required. Support Systems and Professional Development : Attending staff meetings, performance reviews, and supervision meetings as scheduled. Participating in briefings to relief staff during shift changes. Attending in-house training opportunities as scheduled. Other duties as required. Qualifications 1- 2 years’ experience with Home Support managing household budgets, purchasing household food and supplies, caring for the upkeep of a home, completing the daily tasks and responsibilities of independent living. First Aid / CPR Training an asset. Excellent interpersonal, personal care and household management skills. Strong English language skills, verbal and written communication skills; knowledge of other languages an asset. Knowledge of Gerontology and Mental Health issues an asset. Ability to respond and act on emergency situations. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer. Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a ‘Clear’ or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency. Must have up-to-date vaccinations against COVID-19 with a vaccine that has been approved for use in Canada.
