Position : Assisted Living Services Assistant (Part Time)

Hours of Work : Variable hours

Reports to : Assisted Living Manager

The Assisted Living Services Assistant (ALS Assistant) is responsible for supporting the provision of Assisted Living Services to older adult clients at the Senior Persons Living Connected site and the Wishing Well Manor site (Toronto Community Housing).

Responsibilities 1. Schedule workers and support safe service provision

  • Schedule Personal Support Workers on a weekly basis for personal care (PC), medication reminders, homemaking, safety reassurance service, and assist in ensuring client service and safety needs are met
  • Schedule replacement PSWs for staff who are absent or on leave
  • Assists in orienting staff, providing training, monitoring attendance, and providing field support
  • 2. Client Support

  • Contact client for scheduling change and service discussion
  • Prepare and explain service table to client / caregiver and collect their consent
  • Follow up with client’s concern / issue under the guidance of Assisted Living Manager
  • Support client’s assessment under the guidance of Assisted Living Services Manager.
  • 3. Provide administrative support

  • Update client’s file in Alayacare (electronic record) as required by the Manager
  • Collect and submit PSWs time sheets and input data in payroll system for approval
  • Provide clerical support and assist in preparing statistical reports
  • Keep records and inventory of PPE and other necessary supplies, and assist in supplies order or purchase
  • 4. Contribute to departmental and organizational quality improvement

  • Participate in planning and follow-up sessions for establishing long- and short-term goals
  • Perform work safely according to departmental and organizational procedures and policies and ensure the safety of self and others
  • Assist in promoting the Assisted Living Services at SPLC and Wishing Well Manor
  • Any other reasonable duties that may be assigned from time to time

    Education High School diploma or Certificate from a recognized college related to social services or healthcare or gerontology

    Experience and Skills

  • Two to Three (2-3) years’ experience working with seniors in a community setting
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, decision-making and assessment skills and ability to handle crisis
  • Experience scheduling staff an asset
  • Experience working with frail or cognitively impaired seniors
  • Fluency in a second language such as Cantonese and / or Mandarin an asset
  • Ability to be adaptable in a frequently changing work environment
  • Excellent computer knowledge and skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Working Conditions :

  • Required to work occasional evening and weekend hours
  • May be exposed to contagious diseases
  • Frequent phone calls and interruptions
  • Frequently having to schedule and re-schedule staff in short periods of time
  • Required to work at different sites
  • Required to conduct home visits with clients and caregivers; working alone in the home
