Job description

The same philosophy of personal attention that distinguishes Yorkville Education Company as a leading provider of post-secondary education makes us an exceptional place to work. We are a progressive and modern institution, responding to the needs of current and future students and implementing the best technology solutions to empower our work. We prioritize diversity, open doors to those often overlooked, welcome new Canadians, and provide pathways to successful careers.

Yorkville Education Company (which manages both Yorkville University and the Toronto Film School) began with a simple idea in 2004 : offer flexible, rigorous, and career-focused degrees on campus and online to people who are on a purposeful path. With campuses in Ontario, British Columbia and New Brunswick, we equip our graduates with the professional knowledge, skills and designations that employers value.

Focused on providing a transformative, accessible and flexible higher education environment, our teams, from the President to the newest staff member, share a passion for learning, teaching, and growing as individuals and as teams. We nurture an inclusive, supportive, and genuinely kind work environment at our three campus locations and remotely.

If you want to shine a light on academic excellence, be empowered to make an impact on the transformation of the Canadian post-secondary education landscape, and work collaboratively beyond levels, join us.

Who we need

We are looking for a Program Advisor to join our team of Advisors and play a critical role supporting students. Your primary purpose is to foster student success measured by timely program completion or continuing enrolment in university programs. You will oversee a calendar of activities that support program participation, including following up with students at-risk of departure, confirming registration in the upcoming term and calling students who have withdrawn and those on a leave of absence to encourage re-entry. Working as part of the Program Team, you will also be responsible for proactively linking students with a variety of services and support mechanisms, namely academic, financial services, IT support and tutoring.

If you want to take on a role where you can make a profound difference on the experience of students, and design better ways to serve them, we’d love to talk to you.

We currently have a hybrid work model, with the requirement to travel to the Fredericton campus for Registrar and student events.

What's in it for you

Career development and impact . This is a growth opportunity for a new or recent graduate seeking a chance to work in the academic sector. You will be part of a collaborative team that fosters a healthy and positive work culture. You will be cross-trained on our various programs and mentored to further develop your conflict management and problem solving skills. You will see the impact of your work every day as you work closely with students to solve problems, and assist them with accessing the resources they need to complete their program. Yorkville University is a progressive, forward-thinking academic institution. Joining us now is a genuine opportunity to see your ideas for improvement and excellence come to life. It’s the chance to enroll in our courses and programs for free after your first year, and work towards the next level of your career.

What you will do :

  • Ensure student commitment and engagement. You will follow-up with term registrations to ensure students are following their plan of study; and work with the Registrar's Office to confirm student registration issues are resolved within the established timelines. You will reach out to students based on indications they may be at risk of departure or poor coursework performance. You will assist with the planning and execution of graduation ceremonies.
  • Administer withdrawal and re-entry protocols. You will reach out to students on leaves of absence (LOAs) and who have withdrawn to offer pathways and services to support re-enrollment. You will process withdrawals and LOAs.
  • Report. You will prepare At-risk and grade reporting from faculty. You will assist with student retention and persistence reporting.
  • Connect students to support services. You will assist students in accessing academic, financial, IT, tutoring, housing and health and wellness services. You will follow up to ensure the appropriate level of support was provided and to redirect if necessary.

What you bring :

  • The education and experience. You have an undergraduate degree and have worked in customer service. You are empathetic and patient; passionate about delivering exceptional customer service, and seeing students succeed. You are collaborative and collegial, driven to accomplish team goals. You have high standards of ethics and integrity and you share our mission to change lives.
  • The consultative skills. You ask intelligent questions, actively listen and approach problems analytically and creatively. You are focused on finding solutions that are action-oriented and you can leverage and link to existing supports and services. You can prioritize a high volume of competing deliverables, maintain open dialogue, and close the loop to ensure student satisfaction.
  • The interpersonal skills. You have flexible and effective communication skills. You can build trusting relationships with students, staff and faculty. You have a deep appreciation for diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • The technical skills. You are highly proficient in MS Office with an emphasis on Excel,  and you can quickly learn how to use our student information systems. You are detail-oriented and keep meticulous records.
  • The flexibility. You are open to working extended hours during peak periods for student registration and reporting.
  • What does the best of all worlds mean at Yorkville Education?

  • An atmosphere that successfully blends an entrepreneurial culture with education. We value innovation and continuously look towards expanding our programming, working with the latest research, tools and solutions. As a private school with government approval of our offerings, we have the opportunity to do more, stay current and be future-forward.
  • The chance to accelerate your career and disrupt education by responding to the needs you see and purposefully challenging the status quo. Everything we do here is about delighting and engaging our employees - and ultimately our students- from mentorship to teaching, from creative outlets to analytical ones.
  • A place where all individuals feel welcomed in the academic and workplace environments and can bring their authentic selves to the educational and work spheres. We celebrate the full range of human diversity and we acknowledge that equal access to opportunities and services may require the removal of barriers that equity-seeking communities experience in trying to obtain this access.
  • The opportunity to grow with access to free courses, certifications and programs - right up to our Masters' offerings.
  • An appreciation for the insights and skills you bring to work with a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits, including a wide breadth of wellness services and a work-life balance.
  • Join us

We welcome and appreciate candidates with a range of backgrounds and experiences. If you have 70% of the qualifications we are looking for, express your interest. The campus in which this role will be based out of has a mandatory vaccine policy in place. As per this requirement, employees must attest to their vaccination status.

Diversity, equity and inclusion are a critical component of life at Yorkville Education Company and we are committed to making these values an integral part of our culture. We encourage applications from all qualified applicants, including women, persons with disabilities, Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC), people from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Transsexual, Queer, Questioning, Two-Spirit, Intersex, Asexual + (LGBTQ2SIA+) community and other equity-seeking groups.

Yorkville University is committed to providing accessible employment practices that are in compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act ('AODA'). If you require accommodation for disability, please notify Human Resources at 1-866- 467-0661 ext. 1236.
