Accounts Receivable Clerk / CashierMetropolitan DistrictLocation : HRM, NSType of Employment : Full Time, TermUnion Status : NSGEU Local 47Competition # MET 24177Closing Date : December 13, 2024About Our OpportunityUnder the direction of the Manager of Finance and Administration, the Accounts Receivable Clerk / Cashier is responsible to receive and process all payments to Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency on behalf of NSPHA rental clients, other agencies with whom NSPHA has maintenance or other service agreements, and other third-party payments (WCB and group benefits providers, HST rebates, some RNH clients, etc.)ResponsibilitiesProcess monthly payments received electronically, by mail or over the counter in the form of telephone banking / computer payments, cash, cheques, money orders and debits.Accurately track and apply payments to tenant accounts and issuing receipts for counter payments.Identify appropriate system codes to apply miscellaneous non-tenant receipts for payments from third parties and other agencies (Workers' Compensation, Group Insurer, RNH, HST recoveries, etc.)Maintain a bring-forward system to track and monitor post-dated cheques.Balance daily receipts with deposit registers and summaries.Preparing the daily deposit.Safeguard payments in accordance with NSPHA policies and procedures.Maintain and reconcile cash float.Maintain the confidentiality of tenant accounts.Respond to tenant account inquiries.Process vacated tenant files by logging files received, ensure move-out / deposit accounting is complete, review vacated tenant balances to identify files for referral to collection andSupport accounts payable, including invoice data entry.QualificationsSuccessful completion of a Business Administration program in Bookkeeping or Accounting, plus three years' related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.Knowledge of clerical accounting practices and procedures related to cost centres, general ledger accounts and financial transaction processing.Ability to apply general mathematical skills in preparing and reconciling deposits.Thorough knowledge of computerized accounts payable accounting system.Strong keyboarding skillsWorking knowledge of Microsoft OfficeExcellent knowledge of office procedures and practices are required to maintain accurate and secure files, track and follow-up information / report requests.Strong organizational and time-management skills to set priorities and meet deadlines.Accuracy and attention to detail are critical to the integrity of financial and other reports.Judgment and discretion are required to respond to inquiries from vendors and staff, to prioritize work to meet year-end and other transaction / reporting deadlines.Client service oriented.Communication skills, both verbal and written.Interpersonal skills to deal with co-workers, tenants, contractors and vendors, other departments, and the public in a positive, tactful, courteous and cooperative manner.Ability to work independently with little supervision, as well as in a team environment.Work cooperatively with others and display a positive attitude to further the goals of the organization.Ability to exercise tact, discretion, sound judgment and initiative when investigating, questioning and dealing with inquiries, requests and submissions that are sensitive and confidential in nature; andAdaptable to change as the job requires, is receptive to new ideas and willing to try new methods and approaches.Assets : Knowledge of departmental and Housing Authority accounts payable procedures.Good knowledge of Housing Authority policies, procedures and practices.Working knowledge of Yardi Property Management software.Competencies required at this level of work are Communication skills, Organizational skills, Interpersonal skills, Teamwork, Organizational skills, Client Orientation, and Initiative.EquivalencyAn equivalent combination of training, education and experience may be considered.Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.If you are a team player, who is passionate about improving the lives of Nova Scotians, you are the candidate we are looking for to join our team.
