Job description

We are currently hiring for an Accounting Manager to work at our food manufacturing plant located in Langley, BC. This is a permanent opportunity with great benefits and perks! There are about 400 employees at this worksite. This is a fast-paced position with growth opportunities.

You will be reporting to the Director of Finance. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing assigned aspects of the day-to-day accounting activities. Maintenance of the accounting system and accounting records, designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with IFRS.

Your tasks as an Accounting Manager

  • Under the direction of the Director Finance, manages the accounting cycle, ensuring compliance with internal control practices.
  • Oversee activities pertaining to the generation of financial statements within reporting timeline.
  • Maintains an accounting filing system and system of control over accounting transactions
  • Oversees Accounts Payable ensuring timely payment of accounts, while maintaining positive vendor relationships.
  • Review and sign-off journal entries and reconciliations produced by accounting staff
  • Conduct various analysis and generate reports as assigned.
  • Managing the day-to-day activities of the accounting team (accounts payable and accountants).
  • Demonstrate leadership, contributing to an effective team in a manner consistent with company values
  • Ensure a positive environment where associates are effective, productive, and appreciated
  • Communicates relevant information and ensures team has appropriate understanding of responsibilities and duties
  • Solve problems and assists with removing obstacles, providing feedback where appropriate
  • Recommend Improvements relating to accounting with a focus on compliance, controls, quality and with consideration of cost-effective strategies, with quality, people and safety as a top priority.
  • Propose changes including communication and ensuring overall results and desired impact
  • Maintain close working relationships to create an efficient information channel
  • Liaise between departments and external service providers to effectively provide relevant information
  • Assist with and support team projects as required
  • Familiarity with GAAP and relevant IFRS, exercising sound judgement in the application thereof
  • Manage the required resources (people, equipment and technology) to meet needs and maintain cost effectively
  • Ensures effective communication of information and issues for timely decision making
  • Job Requirements for Accounting Manager

  • 2+ years’ experience as an Accounting Manager ideally within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience leading a team of at least 3-5 people
  • Experience working in a publicly traded company
  • Strong experience with completing financial reporting for a public company (e.g. GAAP, subledger, tax depreciation)
  • CPA designation or working towards it.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and excel skills.
  • Great communicator with the ability to build positive relationships with cross-functional teams.
