Part-time Accounting Jobs in Richmond, BC

Innovative public company headquartered in Vancouver and listed on the NASDAQ. Seeking a part-time Junior Accountant (equivalent to around 2 days a week, with flexibility on schedule) who will report into the Assistant Controller. Based in downtown Vancouver. This role can be contract, contract-to-permanent, or perhaps permanent.

Who- the Company :

Small public company based in Vancouver and listed on the NASDAQ, doing business in a very interesting and innovative tech area.

What- the Role :

Reporting into the Assistant Controller, the Junior Accountant (part-time) will input invoices into the accounting system, prepare weekly reconciliation of accounts, and prepare wire transfers and electronic fund transfers within various banking systems on a weekly basis. During the month-end process, the Junior Accountant will update routine schedules to support the preparation of the monthly financial reporting. On a quarterly basis, the Junior Accountant will assist with tasks to support the filing of quarterly financial statements such as rolling forward documents, updating financial figures based on the month-end financial figures, and supporting with other ad hoc accounting tasks.

This role will likely be an approximately 3 month contract to start, with a good chance for extension or conversion to permanent. This is a great role for a University student, a busy parent, or someone with a “side hustle” looking for additional income. There is also opportunity for this role to be permanent from the get-go (in which case there would be a somewhat longer interview process) if the candidate is looking for part-time hours on long-term basis.

Who- the Candidate :

We are seeking candidates with a minimum of 1 year full-cycle accounting experience in a similar role, and ideally 2 to 5 years. Experience working for a publicly-listed company is an asset, but not required. Must have some form of post-secondary accounting education, and long-term pursuit of CPA is preferred. Candidates will have hands-on experience using a small or midsize accounting software such as Sage, QuickBooks, or Xero. Must have intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel.

Where :

Headquartered in downtown Vancouver , close to rapid transit. Working from the office, not from home. The Junior Accountant can work 2 days a week or possibly more days a week but with shorter work days. There is flexibility based on the new Junior Accountant’s schedule- for example, the schedule could be 2x 8-hour days, 4x 4-hour days, etc.

How Much :

Hourly rate commensurate with accounting-related work experience, skills, and education- likely in the range of $20 to $29 an hour. Plus 4% vacation pay, and stat holiday pay once eligible (under BC Labour Law).
