Unit Summary
The Juravinski Cancer Centre incorporates Medical, Radiation, and Gynecology Oncology, Complex Malignant Hematology and the Supportive Care Programs. Physicians and secretarial staff, along with Pharmacy, Nursing (both primary care and chemotherapeutic), dietitians, social workers and support staff work comprehensively in the care and treatment of the oncology patient..
Position Summary
The Medical Secretary works in a team environment providing administrative and secretarial support, as well as telephone triaging of patient calls, in accordance to protocol. The Medical Secretary is responsible for ensuring the timely flow and organization of information and correspondence for the physician which will includes patient-related information and correspondence . The role supports the administrative aspect of the Multidisciplinary Case Conferences to prepare for reporting.. There may be other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
1.Community College diploma from a recognized two-year Community College or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Minimum of three years' secretarial experience with a minimum of 1 year Oncology experience is an asset.
3. Minimum 1 year experience in the telephone triaging of patients.
4. Medical Terminology Certificate 1 and 2 may be subject to testing.
5. Demonstrated proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook.
6. Proficient keyboarding skills, 60 w.p.m.
7. Ability to transcribe from dictation.
8. Excellent verbal/written communication skills and proficiency in English grammar.
9. Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively handle inquiries from a variety of sources (patients, families and physicians).
10. Excellent organizational skills for prioritizing workload.
11. Demonstrated initiative and ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
12. Highly motivated and self-directed.
13. Tact and discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
14. Ability to work independently and identify priorities.
