Job Overview :
The Controller is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating all finance and accounting operational functions, formulating and preparing the Company’s annual budgets, forecasting and managing cash flow, preparation of internal and external financial statements, and all other regulatory reporting. This position is responsible for the monthly and annual financial closure process, ensuring accuracy and integrity through the development of, and adherence to, appropriate financial controls, ensuring the validity and accuracy of the standard costing system, general ledger, and all supporting analyses. Reviews and evaluates financial statements including preparation and analysis of performance metrics.
Responsibilities : Finance
- Provide financial leadership for the senior management team
- Maintain adequate risk management-based internal controls
- Prepare, understand, and present financial results in comparison to the annual business plan and periodic forecasting scenarios. Initiate and implement timely corrective action with leadership to capitalize on opportunities for improvement.
- Provide business analysis on trends, issues, and developments that could impact the operation
- Advance Finance Department initiatives, and continuous improvement and best practice deployment, such as updating software and systems implementation, updating accounting processes, costing, and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and careful implementation
- Manage production and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts
- Manage daily cash and develop and prepare cash flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly intervals
- Review monthly bank reconciliations, vendor account reconciliations (where necessary) and customer account reconciliations (where necessary)
- Onboard and assess creditworthiness of new customers
- Manage monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, reconciliations of accounts, and conduct G / L analysis to ensure the accuracy of results in accordance with Canadian ASPE; manage the preparation of all regulatory reporting
- Drive the timing for monthly billing and other cash management processes to ensure timely cash collection, maintaining compliance with all internal control policies
- Assess, execute, and improve policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accurate reporting within timelines
- Write, revise, document, monitor and enforce accounting policies and procedures
- Maintain a system of internal controls over accounting transactions; ensure that exceptions, if any, are backed by proper approvals and are properly explained
- Complete any other special projects for reporting purposes as required
- Compute quarterly corporate income tax
- Manage WSIB program for the company
- Ensure regulatory compliance and remit corporate income tax, HST, payroll and WSIB
- Manage Billing, Accounts Receivables, Accounts Payables, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, Revenue Recognition, and Payroll collaboration and resource allocation.
