Scope
The Community Enhancement team within the City of Surrey's Parks, Recreation, and Culture Department works to create vibrant public spaces through placemaking and enhancement initiatives and community involvement campaigns. The City of Surrey is looking for an enthusiastic, collaborative, and creative Summer Placemaking Programmer. The Summer Placemaking Programmer will support and oversee placemaking programs and projects, ensuring efficient operation, staff supervision, and general community service support.
Responsibilities
- Assist in design and lead the implementation of interactive public space activations and programs.
- Assist with seasonal program coordination including staff training, program planning, scheduling and staff supervision.
- Assist in the organization and maintenance of program or event supplies and equipment.
- Maintain records, statistics and reports on programs.
- Provide leadership and training for volunteers and junior staff.
- Drive a City vehicle into parks and to other City of Surrey facilities.
- Assist with various administrative duties, promotion and marketing, provide information to the public in a courteous and professional manner.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions. Programs and events can run in all weather, including heat and rain. Considerations are made for extreme weather events.
- The position will require flexible work schedule to be available to work evenings and weekends, as required
Qualifications
Completion of Grade 12 and some post-secondary education from a recognized institution supplemented by 2 years of related experience including supervision in community service work or area of specialty.Experience or interest in placemaking, public space activation or community engagementValid Class 5 Driver's License with a safe driving history.Current Emergency First Aid and CPR C and AED certificate.Have strong interpersonal, planning and organizational skills; strong leadership ability; effective oral and written communication skills.The ability to work independently and in a team setting; are able to establish and maintain respectful and effective working relationships with volunteers, staff and the public.Previous experience working within a Municipal environment is an asset.Other Information

This position requires completion of a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
