Summary Statement

This class incumbent is responsible for supervising the maintenance of a moderate size institution / facility including buildings, grounds and physical facilities or assisting the Physical Plant Maintenance Superintendent in the physical maintenance of the largest of the State institutions / facilities.

Essential Functions

• Supervision is exercised over two or more merit full-time positions working in a variety of mechanical / trades fields per the Merit Rules. The elements of supervision include planning, assigning, reviewing, evaluating, coaching, training, recommending hire / fire and discipline.
• Designs sketches and prints of remodeling that needs to be done and inspects the work.
• Coordinates and works with contractors, architects and others on large construction projects.
• Assists in projecting budget for maintenance operations and report preparation.
• Oversees the operation, maintenance and repair of boilers, pumps, water and other treatment installations.
• May supervise grounds maintenance or custodial workers.

Conditions of Hire
