Legal Technology Lawyer - Corporate

We are seeking a talented and experienced Legal Technology Lawyer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both corporate law and technology, with a passion for leveraging technological solutions to improve legal processes and outcomes. This role requires technological proficiency combined with legal knowledge to provide hands-on support in the implementation and adoption of improved legal processes and technologies. This is a progressive opportunity for a creative and forward thinker interested in combining legal knowledge with technology and innovation.

Responsibilities / Duties :

  • Collaborate with legal teams to identify opportunities for implementing technology solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Work closely with Knowledge and Practice Innovation lawyers to leverage their relationships and understanding of different practice areas and legal workflows.
  • Participate in system analysis, requirements gathering, system design and implementation planning for existing or new systems.
  • Validate the use of legal technology tools to ensure they are meeting the intended objectives and making necessary adjustments or recommendations for improvement as needed.
  • Manage vendor relationships, including negotiating contracts, overseeing service level agreements, and ensuring vendors deliver high-quality products and services that meet the firm's needs and standards.
  • Lead change management efforts to ensure successful adoption of legal technology solutions, including developing training programs, communicating benefits to stakeholders, and addressing any resistance or barriers to adoption.
  • Provide training and ongoing support and guidance to legal and business professionals on the use of legal technology tools, including troubleshooting issues and answering questions.
  • Where appropriate, provide hands-on support on in the use of legal technologies on client files, as a member of the matter team.
  • Stay current on emerging legal technologies and trends, and assess their potential impact on our Firm and clients.
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders on all aspects of the selection, implementation and use of legal technology.

Required Experience :

  • Two (2) to three (3) experience in a corporate legal practice at a leading law firm.
  • Expert understanding and working knowledge of Document Management Systems (iManage), Microsoft Office 365 applications, Adobe and other legal production software (such as Litera products).
  • Highly skilled in application administration, testing, configuration, performance monitoring and in-depth troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Kira and Closing Folders platforms.
  • Ability to facilitate small and large group meetings, training and working sessions.
  • Qualifications :

  • LL.B, BCL or J.D. required; B.Comm or MBA is an asset.
  • Must be a member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario or the Barreau du Quebec.
  • Minimum of 2 years of legal corporate practice experience in a large law firm, corporate legal department or professional services firm.
  • Strong understanding of legal technology tools and platforms, with an interest in understanding and applying technical solutions to standardize legal processes.
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to use logic to solve complex problems.
  • Strong communication skills combined with excellent organizational skills, and rigorous attention to detail.
  • Fluency in both English and French would be an asset.
  • Ability to balance competing demands, demonstrated good business judgment, and experience working effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Curiosity and a growth mindset, with a strong interest in evolving best practices in legal and knowledge industries and staying current on emerging legal technologies and trends.

    Compensation

    The salary range for this position is $125,000-$150,000 annually; the base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, internal and market equity.
