Labourer (Roads)

(Temporary Full-Time)

The District of West Vancouver’s Engineering Construction Department currently has an opening for a temporary full-time Labourer to join our Roads team. The successful candidate will perform a variety of manual tasks working in the Engineering Construction department. These tasks can include :

• Street road maintenance – ditching, slashing, and sidewalk repairs;
• Road pavement maintenance and repair – assisting with installation of hot mix asphalt utility patches and potholes.
• Assisting in spill response and motor vehicle accident clean up
• Assisting with traffic control – with a valid TCP certification
• Winter operation maintenance – salting, brining and snow plowing streets and sidewalks
• Operating basic hand and power tools; such as, weed eaters, pole pruners, chain saw, shovels, pipe saws, plate tamper, etc.;
• Provide manual labourer assistance on various tasks and assignments; and
• Cleaning trucks and equipment as needed;
• Maintaining equipment in a safe and secure manner;
• Maintaining daily pick-up records;
• Other related duties as required.

The candidates must hold a valid BC Class 5 Driver's License. Successful candidates will be required to provide an acceptable driver’s abstract, a police information check, and copies of relevant credentials.

Position Status : Union (WVMEA) – Temporary Full-time

Hours of Work : 40 hours per week (hours and days of work may vary)

Starting Rate of Pay : $30.88 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits

This position has a pay structure with three steps which increase based on hours completed in the position.
