Job Summary
Assist in the preparation and cooking of various food items while maintaining food safety and sanitation standards in the preparation and kitchen areas.
Responsibilities
- Obtain daily production schedule and preparation requirements from the Chef.
- Set up items for purchase on a daily basis.
- Assist in the preparation and cooking of various food items.
- Wash, peel, cut and shred fruits and vegetables.
- Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, etc.
- Prepare simple dishes such as salads, entrees, etc.
- Perform other kitchen duties as assigned.
- Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible.
- Serve meals or prepare for delivery by using correct portioning, meeting outlined standards, ensuring that food is at the correct temperature and is attractive and tasty; taste all prepared food.
- Serve customers in a friendly, efficient manner following outlined steps of service.
- Resolve customer concerns and relay relevant information to supervisor.
- Provide service in all retail areas, including cashiering and line serving.
- Operate and maintain kitchen equipment as instructed.
- Assist in production planning, record‑keeping and reporting as required.
- Assist in the ordering and receiving of all food and supplies as required.
- Ensure all food and other items are stored properly.
- Keep refrigerators and storerooms clean and neat; store food per standards.
- Utilize approved food recipes and production standards to ensure proper quality, serving temperatures, and standard portion control; notify cooks if food temperatures are not within acceptable limits.
- Assure compliance with all sanitation and safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean, orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and taking out trash.
- Maintain work area and equipment; follow principles of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment.
- Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines.
- Clean kitchen after preparation and serving, maintaining high standards of cleanliness; store or discard excess food in accordance with safe food‑handling procedures.
- Report needed maintenance, faulty equipment, or accidents to the supervisor immediately.

About You
- Certificate from a recognized cooking school preferred.
- Valid Food Handler Certificate or provincial equivalent.
