Job Summary

Assist in the preparation and cooking of various food items while maintaining food safety and sanitation standards in the preparation and kitchen areas.

Responsibilities

• Obtain daily production schedule and preparation requirements from the Chef.
• Set up items for purchase on a daily basis.
• Assist in the preparation and cooking of various food items.
• Wash, peel, cut and shred fruits and vegetables.
• Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, etc.
• Prepare simple dishes such as salads, entrees, etc.
• Perform other kitchen duties as assigned.
• Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible.
• Serve meals or prepare for delivery by using correct portioning, meeting outlined standards, ensuring that food is at the correct temperature and is attractive and tasty; taste all prepared food.
• Serve customers in a friendly, efficient manner following outlined steps of service.
• Resolve customer concerns and relay relevant information to supervisor.
• Provide service in all retail areas, including cashiering and line serving.
• Operate and maintain kitchen equipment as instructed.
• Assist in production planning, record‑keeping and reporting as required.
• Assist in the ordering and receiving of all food and supplies as required.
• Ensure all food and other items are stored properly.
• Keep refrigerators and storerooms clean and neat; store food per standards.
• Utilize approved food recipes and production standards to ensure proper quality, serving temperatures, and standard portion control; notify cooks if food temperatures are not within acceptable limits.
• Assure compliance with all sanitation and safety requirements.
• Maintain a clean, orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and taking out trash.
• Maintain work area and equipment; follow principles of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment.
• Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines.
• Clean kitchen after preparation and serving, maintaining high standards of cleanliness; store or discard excess food in accordance with safe food‑handling procedures.
• Report needed maintenance, faulty equipment, or accidents to the supervisor immediately.

• Able to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils.
• Patient with the ability to stay positive under pressure.

About You

• Certificate from a recognized cooking school preferred.
• Valid Food Handler Certificate or provincial equivalent.

• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
