We are looking for an experienced Group NPI Buyer to join our successful Toronto team. The position is an immediate vacancy.
The purpose of this role is to lead New Project Introduction (NPI) purchasing activities for assigned projects, supporting Active Dynamics from initial supplier costing through to supporting quotes to customers, liaising with cross‑functional teams, conducting program kick‑off activities, sourcing, and transitioning projects to division purchasing teams for production.
The role collaborates closely with the Project Management team to ensure on-time purchasing milestones and to guide suppliers toward a successful launch, supports new supplier selection, and contributes to purchasing commodity strategies to align with technology growth.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure the sourcing and commodity management of assigned materials and services required for existing and future business plans.
- Coordinate and liaise with internal departments to involve all stages of requirements for purchasing fulfillment.
- Identify, assess, and qualify suppliers against Active Dynamics’ systems compliance for current and future needs.
- Obtain completed and acknowledged documentation from suppliers as per systems requirements.
- Obtain requirement details and specifications from internal customers for issuance of RFI, RFP, and RFQs in accordance with company procedures.
- Obtain and evaluate quotes for comparative presentation and award decisions in compliance with procedures.
- Drive program milestones for purchased components and services to ensure on-time launch and ramp‑up to mass production.
- Negotiate with vendors to obtain the best value price, consistent with specified engineered standards of quality, safety, minimum lead time, and on-time delivery.
- Maintain supplier relationships and coordinate with all other departments on purchasing matters.
- Comply with all new methods, systems, policies, and procedures to ensure efficient and effective operations.
- Maintain contacts with markets or suppliers and keep Management fully advised of market status, trends, availability, and projected performance.
- Participate in continuous improvement of department/plant operations and strive to meet or exceed cost reduction goals.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Educational Requirement
- Relevant post‑secondary education.
- Purchasing certification/designation preferred.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 5 years similar experience in a manufacturing environment; metal fabrication preferred.
- Experience in strategic sourcing, commodity management, RFI/RFP/RFQ, supplier assessment, cost/pricing analysis and control, negotiations, and management of customer‑nominated suppliers, Shipping/INCOTerms.
- Knowledge of MRP environment; previous Syspro experience a definite asset.
- Ability to manage priorities and time without constant supervision.
- Solid understanding of accepted purchasing principles and practices.
- Working knowledge of logistics and inventory management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation, and mathematical skills.
- Fluency in English (written and verbal).
