The Role

The Intermediate Software Developer (Java) focuses on quality on the backend and is excited by the idea of millions of people using their creations everyday. As a key member of the development team, they collaborate to create new features and products that our customers love.

What You’ll Build

Design, develop, test, deploy and support the code you write.

Develop the backend for new features and services that make up the Axonify solution.

Solve hard scalability problems inherent in a cloud based, multi-tenant system architecture.

Performance analysis and optimization on high volume data services.

Use AI tools and techniques to automate tasks, improve code quality, and optimize software performance, while understanding their capabilities and limitations.

Work with product management to help shape the direction of new products and features.

Participate in code and architecture reviews.

Participate in the solution design process and contribute significantly to Technical Design documents.

Identify opportunities for refactoring and code improvement beyond assigned features.

Provide accurate estimates for tasks and effectively communicate progress or delays to the team.

Provide actionable feedback in code reviews, flagging bugs, scalability issues, and edge cases.

What You’ll Bring

2+ years of Java development experience, including concurrency and performance, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and OO design. Knowledge of relational database design and SQL preferred.

Java development experience and foundational knowledge in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar technical field gained through Post-Secondary education, experience or a combination of both.

Experience with Cloud Computing environments like AWS and GCP. Experience with any or all of these technologies : Relational Databases, NoSQL Databases, Search Engines, Web and Application Server Engines, Containers. Familiarity with performance and / or unit testing.

Familiarity with SDLC processes and maintaining high-quality task tracking.

Strong personal organization and drive for the highest quality. A desire to work in a fast-paced, evolving, dynamic environment.

A detail-oriented mindset; and are a highly enthusiastic team player with a positive attitude.

Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality, high responsiveness, with good analytical and problem-solving abilities. Strong debugging skills with the ability to identify root causes of issues, even in unfamiliar code.

Ability to break down complex problems into smaller, manageable units.

Can operate autonomously and proactively seek out solutions to problems.

Proficiency in Python is considered a strong plus to support our emerging AI agent stack alongside our core Java backend.

Experience with AI agent development, specifically using a framework such as Google ADK or LangGraph, is highly desirable.

Competitive Compensation :

Competitive salary and an incentive plan aligned to your role, which may include annual or variable incentives. We take a thoughtful, market-based approach to compensation. The estimated base salary range for this role is $96,000 CAD - $120,000 CAD - $132,000 CAD and reflects growth from building capability in the role to fully excelling over time, with most new hires joining near the midpoint. Actual salaries may vary within the range, or above or below it, based on factors such as experience, skills, location, and business needs.
