Financial Operations and Reporting Lead – Calgary, AB

Job Summary

We are currently looking for a dynamic and experienced Financial Operations and Reporting Lead to join the regional Finance & Accounting Department. This position will be responsible for day-to day service levels and contribute to efficiency of reporting operation requirements. This individual will also to be involved in preparation of special-purpose reports, and other ad-hoc projects. An ideal candidate would be comfortable operating in a fast-paced evolving environment, which is centered on process improvement and simplification. The candidate will have a strong work ethic, be collaborative, professional, adaptable, positive and interested in their work.

Work Environment

Hours of work are from 8 : 00 a.m. to 4 : 00 p.m.; however, other proposed schedules within in the Firm’s core hours may be accepted. Occasional pre-authorized overtime may be required to meet business needs. Hybrid remote work arrangements are available with requirements as per business needs for onsite office support. The successful candidate must live in or around Calgary, AB and be able to commute to the office as often as required. While this is a hybrid role, the majority of the work may be onsite.

This position is located in Calgary, Alberta and will report directly to the Financial Controller.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the efficient day-to-day operational service level of the front office.
  • Address stakeholders’ needs, including quality and delivery of service.
  • Assist Financial Controller in coordinating efforts to sustain high level of service to internal and external users.
  • Contribute to compilation of financial results by supporting financial period closing, budget, forecast and reporting processes and provide insights and recommendations through input and research.
  • Support internal reporting, including ad hoc requests and be able to collaborate with other team members and users to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide cross coverage of operational service functions to strengthen internal synergy and knowledge base, specifically, cash receipts / banking, trust coverage and financial reporting.
  • Assist Lawyers and Assistants with Fasken Dashboard and other data questions.
  • Contribute to the month end reporting processes as required to improve efficiencies and reduce reporting timelines.
  • Assist Financial Controller with Month-end balancing and financial / management reports and year end procedures / audits.
  • Liaise with firmwide Finance Team by providing information and source documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Financial Controller.
  • Required Knowledge and Experience

  • The successful candidate must have an accounting degree / diploma.
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years of experience in the Accounting field.
  • Experience in Legal field would be an asset.
  • Experience with Trust Accounts would be an asset.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Team Lead or Supervision experience is preferred.
  • Strong computer and technology knowledge (Excel, ERP, Workflows, smartsheets, Power BI etc.)
  • Self-directed and takes initiative.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and customer focus approach, including the ability to deal with all levels of staff.
