Manager, Traffic Engineering and Operations
This position is located at Regional Headquarters in Whitby, Ontario with teleworking flexibility as per business needs and corporate policy.
Reporting to the Director of Transportation and Field Services, the incumbent will :
- Lead, direct, and provide overall direction on traffic operating and engineering strategies, work programs, projects and business plans that are aligned with the Regional Strategic Plan and departmental goals
- Manage annual budgets and forecasts to support existing and new programs
- Prepare reports and recommendations to Works Committee and Council on traffic and transportation related matters
- Attend Works Committees, Regional Council, Standing Committees and public meetings when necessary to present and / or support reports or programs
- Work and liaise with other departments, public, municipalities and outside agencies to coordinate programs and provide technical assistance
- Negotiate with contractors, consultants and developers to preserve the functional integrity of the Regional road system
- Represent the Department on various boards and committees to formulate Regional and Provincial transportation priorities / policies
- Develop and maintain effective policies, procedures and controls related to traffic management, road safety and the transportation network
- Lead the professional development of the team by encouraging a culture of mentorship, continuous learning and growth by advocating and maintaining the staff complement to fulfill the mandate of Traffic Engineering and Operations
- Work in accordance with the provisions of applicable health and safety legislation and all corporate / departmental policies and procedures related to occupational health and safety
The successful applicant will possess :
Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in OntarioStrong leadership and managerial skills, with experience in public administration and management of human and financial resources demonstrated by several years of experience leading teamsExtensive experience as a Professional Engineer in municipal Traffic Engineering, Traffic Operations, Public Safety, Geometric Road Design and Traffic Control Systems.Thorough knowledge of municipal government infrastructure planning, procurement, acquisition and management processes as well as a solid understanding of relevant legislation such as the Highway Traffic Act, Electrical Safety Act and Occupational Health and Safety ActExperience in advancing equity through inclusive leadership and policy developmentAdvanced knowledge and experience working with MS Office and project management softwareDemonstrated ability to complete projects on time and on budgetStrategic thinking with strong leadership skills and demonstrated political and business acumenExcellent interpersonal, problem solving, negotiation, and customer service skills as well as effective written and verbal communication skillsA valid Class ‘G’ Ontario Driver’s LicenceManagement & Exempt Salary Grade 9
Salary : $140,921 to $176,151 per annumConditions of Employment
