Manager of Software Development – Vmo Solutions – Competitive Salary

Remote (Canada)

Vmo Solutions is a growing, product-focused software company building modern, cloud-native operational software for the aviation industry. Our platforms support airlines in running safe, efficient, and compliant operations every day and we’re at an exciting inflection point in our growth.

We’re looking for a Manager of Software Development to lead our development team and help shape the next chapter of our product and company. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role for someone who loves building software, mentoring teams, and turning ambitious ideas into shipped features.

This role blends technical leadership and hands-on development , roughly a 60 / 40 split between leadership and coding making it ideal for an experienced engineer who wants to stay close to the technology while owning delivery and team success.

What You’ll Do

Lead the Software Development Team

Lead a team of 5 full-time developers , providing technical direction, mentorship, and support

Conduct performance reviews, support career growth, and help build a strong, engaged engineering culture

Participate in hiring decisions and help grow the team thoughtfully as the company scales

Drive Delivery & Execution

Own the successful delivery of new features and enhancements , from concept through release

Work closely with operations, product, and other stakeholders to translate business needs into high-quality software

Ensure predictable, high-quality releases while maintaining agility

Hands-On Technical Leadership

Contribute directly to the codebase and architecture

Review designs and code, set technical standards, and guide architectural decisions

Balance pragmatism and technical excellence to keep the team moving quickly without sacrificing quality

Shape Process & Engineering Maturity

Own and evolve the software development process

Improve planning, execution, and delivery practices as the company grows

Champion continuous improvement while keeping processes lightweight and effective

Collaborate on Product Direction

Work with key stakeholders to help develop and refine the product roadmap

Take ownership of executing the roadmap with the development team

Provide technical insight to inform product decisions and trade-offs

What We’re Looking For

7+ years of professional software development experience, including leading development teams

Strong background in cloud-native, serverless architectures

Proven experience balancing people leadership and hands-on technical work

Ability to translate business goals into executable technical plans

Excellent communication skills and a collaborative leadership style

A builder’s mindset — pragmatic, curious, and excited by growth

Strong Experience With :

AWS , particularly services such as Lambda, API Gateway, CloudFormation, EventBridge, Step Functions, S3, SNS / SQS, DynamoDB, Cognito, and CloudWatch

TypeScript

MongoDB

Serverless architectures

Git-based workflows and modern CI / CD practices

Agile or iterative development methodologies
