Reception House is a non-profit community-based organization that delivers quality settlement integration and support services to refugees and newcomers in Waterloo Region. Since 1987 Reception House has helped thousands of refugees rebuild their lives in Canada through specialized programs and services designed to help them become established in their new communities.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a full-time contract Life Skills Support Worker in our Client Support Services (CSS) program from January 15th to March 31st 2026 . The Life SkillsSupportWorkerwill providehands-on practical support to high-needs Rohingya clients helping them build the skillsrequiredfor safe and independent living in Canada. The role addresses skill gaps commonly experienced by clients from protracted or highly disrupted in close collaboration with assigned Case Managers the Life Skills Support Worker will focus on direct client skill-building coaching and education complementing case management by reinforcing learning through practicalin-homeand community-based support.

What youll do :

  • Deliver individualized hands-on life skills support tailored to each clientsidentifiedneeds abilities and learning pace in collaboration with Case Managers.
  • Support clients in developing daily living and household skills including cooking food storage laundry personal hygiene household cleaning waste disposalpest preventionand safe use of household appliances.
  • Support clients in understanding expectations related to living in apartments and houses in Canada including use of shared amenities common spaces noise considerations and basic tenant responsibilities.
  • Support clients in developing food and nutrition skills includingidentifyingnutritious food options navigating grocery stores within a household budget and supporting parents with packing nutritious school lunches.
  • Support clients inlearning how tousepublic transportation and navigation apps to plan routes and travel independently.
  • Provide education on fire safety including smoke alarms safe use of cooking appliances and fire prevention practices.
  • Support clients inidentifyingsafety situations and understanding when to contact emergency services.
  • Provide education on winter safety including safe use of heating sourcesappropriate winterclothing and preparing forcold weatherconditions.
  • Build essential digital literacy skills focused on smartphone use including checking and responding to emailssendingand receiving voicemailsetc.
  • Communicate emerging client needs to Case Managers following life skills support.
  • Document services accurately including outcomes and time spent to support program reporting and tracking including in Salesforce.
  • Assistwith the development of simple accessible safety and learning materials for clients.
  • Collaborate with internal staff volunteers and external partners; attend meetings training and team activities.

    Perform other duties as assigned.

    What youll need :

  • At least 1 year of experience working or volunteering with people of diverse backgrounds in settlement or social services sectors required.
  • Must be fluent in Rohingya with good English skills.
  • Successful completion of secondary school or equivalent (e.g. GED) education.
  • Experience using an asset or strengths-based approach to service delivery.
  • Demonstrate understanding of challenges faced by refugees and the agencies that serve them.
  • Strong knowledge of the local community and its resources and services.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft 365 products particularly Teams SharePoint Word Excel Outlook.
  • Ability to pick upnew technologyquickly including databases and web content management systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills the ability to work with all levels of staff and various external stakeholders.
  • Able to deal with challenging situations emergencies and conflict. Detail oriented with excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of dexteritytactand confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated capacity-building approach to community engagement and partnerships.
  • Ability to be flexible take initiative and use a proactive approach to tasks
  • Working conditions :

  • A valid drivers license andaccess to a car ispreferred.
  • Must be able to move freely throughout buildings and travel within community with reasonable accommodations asrequired.
