Job Description:
We are currently seeking a Strategic Advisor - Maritime Industry for part-time contract position. As the successful candidate you will act as a high-level consultant to senior leadership and provide analysis on developments in the global maritime sector. This role is responsible for monitoring long-term trends and recommending business strategies with a primary focus on geopolitical risk, environmental regulations, supply chain stability, and technology adoption.
This position is available 100% Remote in Canada.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor international trade policies, sanctions, and regional conflicts to assess their impact on shipping routes and business operations.
- Analyze global economic trends to forecast changes in freight rates and asset values
- Provide reports on regulatory changes in key global markets.
- Create strategies to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, and evaluate the costs and benefits of alternative fuels (e.g., LNG, Methanol, Ammonia) and retrofitting options.
- Oversee ESG reporting requirements and sustainability documentation.
- Identify risks to the supply chain, including port congestion and physical security threats
- Advise on insurance coverage and liability related to operational risks.
- Advise leadership on fleet modernization and technical upgrades
- Help assess new maritime technologies to determine their return on investment
Required skills:
- 10+ years experience within the maritime, logistics, and shipping industry
- Proven experience analyzing political and economic data to identify business risks with ability to write clear reports
- Working knowledge of SOLAS, MARPOL, and current environmental standards (CII, EEXI).
Nice-to-have skills:
- Prior experience working in fleet operations or naval architecture.
- Existing relationships with industry bodies
- Certified Project Management (PMP, Prince2, etc.) or relevant certifications
