Description
A Social and Cultural History of Rock & Roll.
This course explores historical problems in America since the 1950s using rock n roll and its various subgenres (e.g., punk and hip hop) as method and setting. It is not a history of rock & roll per se, but rather how popular music emerged as a ubiquitous means of expression, and one that can be used to better understand the historical circumstances from which it was created, distributed, and consumed.
