How You'll Perform The Role
Reporting to the Site Director, the Quality Assurance Manager leads the quality function at the site level to ensure implementation of quality programs and systems, drives reductions in consumer dissatisfiers and partners with operations to build a strong quality and compliance culture.
Principal Job Duties
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System in the manufacturing plants and warehouses in line with company and BRC / SQF standards.
- Drive the continuous improvement of product quality, including reduction initiatives for key customer complaints, management of customer inquiries or issues and eradication of defects and losses.
- Support innovation projects and customer‑specific initiatives from a food safety and quality perspective.
- Champion the modernization of quality tools in the plants in line with the strategic plan (SAP, traceability, electronic quality data, supplier management).
- Participate as an active member of the leadership team, fostering connections with peers in other sites and the continuous improvement of quality across the network.
- Implement and maintain programs to support BRC / SQF certification.
- Champion the Quality System Audit process.
- Champion ISO & BRC / SQF and Food safety training for all employees.
- Perform supplier audits / qualifications to ensure raw and packaging materials meet quality expectations.
- Manage the non‑conformance recording system, investigate events, make recommendations and manage corrective and preventive actions for both internal and external events and ensure they get implemented.
- Work with the management team to design quality and process improvement.
- Promote and drive continuous quality improvement throughout the organization.
- Chair the product development and trial committee.
- Participate in product development and champion the product specification system.
- Perform cross‑checks of quality measures out of SOPs to ensure proper evaluation of quality measures.
- Manage off‑site quality measurement requests.
- Assist and recommend quality test equipment and methodology to meet customers’ product specifications.
- Periodically review new and existing test methods to ensure ongoing effectiveness for testing objectives.
- Assist in the management of new equipment procurement, commissioning and training.
- Environmental reporting.
- BRC / SQF Practitioner.
- HACCP Development & Lead, Maintain & improve BRC / SQF systems.
- Other projects and tasks as required.
What We Need From You
Minimum 5 years of packaging / food industry quality management experience in a multi‑stage manufacturing environment, preferably in the flexible packaging industry.Experience in food packaging quality is an asset.Post‑secondary degree or diploma in Food Science or related field.BRC / SQF Practitioner.Strong proficiency in communication and technical writing in English.Ability to influence decision makers; excellent relationship management skills.Strong organization skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.High ethical standards and strong work ethic.Food Safety experience is preferred.Practical experience with risk management, product testing, capability studies and control plans.Sqf practitioner – considered an asset.Must be fluent in English (read, write, speak).Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, SAP, and ERP systems.Benefits
