BASIC FUNCTION
The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for working as a team member ensuring equipment within the plant is regularly serviced and operating smoothly at all times. Maintain continuous contact with the operators of each machine.
SCOPE OF POSITION
Position functions under the guidance of the Maintenance Mechanic Lead Hand but reports directly to the Maintenance Manager. To assist the Maintenance Mechanic Lead Hand in projects as required. Position requirements include a good understanding of all the equipment in the maintenance shop, and good problem‑solving skills.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
Responsible for working in compliance with the provisions of the company’s health and safety regulations.
- Use and wear all protective devises / clothing as required, ear plugs, safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves
- Report to the employer / supervisor the absence of or defect in any equipment or protective devices
- Report to the employer / supervisor any contravention of the Occupational Health and Safety Act or the regulations or the existence of any hazard which he / she knows.
- Report any incident, near miss, or property damage immediately
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment
- Mandatory participation in WRK safety program – BGS, Concern Reporting, etc. see program list for options
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plant / Machinery Maintenance (45%)
Ensure machinery within the plant is regularly serviced and operating wellOperate Power Tools to perform necessary repairsOperate Lathe, Welder, Milling Machine, Drill Presses, Cutting Tools, and Saws to repair damaged parts or design new partsResponsible for maintenance to sprinkler systemPreventative Maintenance (20%)
Regular cleaning checking all equipment within the plant to ensure satisfactory operation and safetyTrouble‑Shooting (20%)
Respond to machine operators request for a work order by running the machine to determine exactly what the problem isRead and understand necessary blueprints, to help determine where the problem is locatedRead blue prints to understand how / where installation are to occurParticipate as a team member to install or move any large machinery in the plantRegular cleaning / checking of all maintenance area, including shop and compressor area, to ensure they are clean and safeMaintain maintenance area on outside of the facility to ensure cleanlinessMake sure all work areas are cleaned up after repairs / modificationsSQF / Food Safety - 5%

Minimum of grade 12 education or related experience is required3-5 years experience in manufacturing environment is requiredIndustrial Mechanic Millwright or similar, e.g Tool & Die, etc. license / certificate is required + successful completion of a complete apprenticeship programExperienced and skilled on all maintenance equipment - Lathe, Welder, Milling Machine, Drill Presses, Cutting ToolsStrong analytical and problem‑solving skills requiredGood communication and interpersonal skills requiredStrong safety orientation – follows safety procedures (ie.
