MEP Technical Manager - Scarborough Subway Extension (STC)
What is the Opportunity?
Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) was selected by Metrolinx to deliver the Scarborough Subway Extension – Stations, Rails and Systems (SSE-SRS) package. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools and other key destinations throughout the city.
As part of the Scarborough Transit Connect project based in Scarborough, Aecon is looking for a qualified MEP Technical Manager to join our team.
What You'll Do Here
- Lead project-side coordination of mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), fire and life safety, and associated building systems, prioritizing construction delivery from design through commissioning.
- Manage consultants and engineering teams to deliver coordinated, compliant, constructible solutions within budget and construction dates; track dependencies, overdue decisions, and constraints, escalating delivery risks.
- Support market engagement and procurement through supplier and subcontractor technical discussions, scope and specification development, tender clarifications, and technical bid evaluations, addressing compliance, interfaces, and long-lead equipment risks.
- Resolve complex technical issues, balancing safety, constructability, operations, maintenance, cost, and schedule.
- Lead technical reviews against contract requirements, codes, standards, and specifications; recommend acceptance within delegated authority, retaining formal design approval with responsible design professionals.
- Resolve MEP interfaces with rail systems, communications, civil, structural, architectural, and operational disciplines, aligning scope boundaries, site access, and construction sequencing.
- Lead daily MEP engineering support to site teams, coordinating timely RFIs, shop drawing reviews, design clarifications, field issue resolution, and close-out of design-related non-conformances and actions.
- Coordinate engineering and field-driven changes, assessing constructability, scope, cost, schedule, and interface impacts and securing required approvals before implementation.
- Support testing, commissioning, operational readiness, and handover; coordinate verification records, record drawings, operations and maintenance documentation, and technical close-out with site and quality teams.
- Lead technical risk mitigation, value engineering, and continuous improvement to improve delivery and lifecycle performance.
- Promote digital engineering, BIM integration, and collaborative design to improve coordination and quality.
- Mentor engineers, coordinators, and consultants, promoting safety, quality, innovation, and technical excellence.
What You Bring to the Team
- 7-10 years of relevant MEP engineering, design management, or project delivery experience.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary infrastructure or transit projects.
- Strong understanding of HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Fire Protection, and Building Systems.
- Experience managing consultant deliverables and design interfaces.
- Familiarity with Metrolinx, TTC, municipal, and rail project standards is considered an asset.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility preferred.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
