Job Overview

The Application Support Specialist is responsible for providing applications and hardware support to end users throughout the ambulatory services at Kensington.

This particular role includes providing support for any medical equipment connected or interfaced with the EMR, assisting physician, nursing and allied health staff during clinics hours, navigate through troubleshooting patient charts issues (user credentials, connectivity, integration, etc), providing support for any medical equipment connected or interfaced with the EMR, or implementation of clinic workflow on the EMR. This role will also assist in other areas of IT as needed for all areas of The Kensington Health organization.

Employment type: Temporary full-time (1 year contract)

Responsibilities

  • Support for any medical equipment interfaced with the EMR via DICOM, HL7, API and others.

  • Provide assistance to Systems Analysts with transfer and retrieval of data in application software, reporting and analytical data export.

  • Proficiency in Windows and Mac OS.

  • Assist with providing first and second level support for software and hardware incidents in Ambulatory Care, and document and keep track of procedures taken to resolves issues on Help Desk applications.

  • Assist in imaging and deploying new desktops and laptops for clinic use.

  • Assist with OR CCTV recording equipment.

  • Manage computer workstation inventory to ensure proper documentation.

  • Knowledge with medical equipment: hardware, and software.

  • Troubleshooting software and medical equipment related to the clinical settings.

  • Training of staff on EMR/Medical Equipment support fixes.

  • Extending documents on the medical hardware.

  • Effectively plans duties and assignment in order of priority.

  • Monitors and inspects equipment daily to ensure it is maintained in a clean condition and in good repair.

  • Ensures that all medical instrument peripherals are accounted for and an inventory count is completed each morning.

  • Assists in prioritized technical issues during procedures.

  • Engage with EMR vendors for troubleshooting and problem resolution.

  • Familiar with ICD10 billing coders and OHIP billing process.

  • Explore software applications in order to better support business needs.

  • Assist the desktop support analysts with the training and orienting of staff on the use of hardware and software

  • Support to the Systems' analysts with the installation, configuration and ongoing usability of desktop and laptop computers, peripheral equipment and application software within established standards and guidelines.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Well-organized with strong attention to detail.

  • Able to work independently without supervision and exercise initiative.

  • Excellent time management skills, ability to shift priorities on an ad hoc basis and flexibility with working hours based on clinic needs.

  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral.

  • Language Skills:

    • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Reasoning Ability:

    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.

  • Computer Skills:

    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Work Environment:

    • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of computer hardware and software; EMR is a must have, Internet software, Word Processing, Automated Reporting system, networking, EMR system administration, desktop software and others as required.

    • The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    • Responsible for working safely in compliance with accepted safe work practices, procedures and legislated health and safety standards. Employees must: use and wear the equipment, protective devices and personal protective equipment as required; report hazards, accidents, and the absence of or defect in any equipment or protective device; attend all required health and safety training; and follow all established safe work procedures.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Knowledge of overall IT operating systems, networks, and storage devices.

  • Computer proficiency working with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with EMRs, PACs, DICOM, and HL7/FHIR.

  • Familiar with web services and API integration.

  • Familiarity with IHE protocols.

  • Working knowledge on any of the EMRs and other medical systems below:

    • Oscar

    • Radiant

    • Merge

    • Endoworks

    • Webchart

    • Point Click Care

Required Professional Designation/Certificate:

  • Minimum BSc or BCs degree or 3 years of hands-on experience working in a Health Care setting.
