About CAREERS: The Next Generation

CAREERS: The Next Generation is a unique non-profit organization that helps raise youth awareness of career opportunities and facilitates internships to help students earn while they learn. We collaborate with government, educators, communities, industry, parents, and students to introduce youth to rewarding careers and cultivate the skilled workforce of the future.

We are seeking an Indigenous Youth Career Coach to support the successful and smooth transition of Indigenous youth entering a CAREERS internship program through one-on-one coaching and worksite readiness.

This is a temporary, part-time position with an end date of August 31, 2026. Full-time hours, up to 40 hours per week, may be considered. Candidates residing in Calgary, Airdrie, Okotoks, Tsuut'ina Nation, The Îethka Nakoda Wîcastabi First Nations, Chiniki First Nations, Bearspaw First Nations, Wesley First Nations, and Siksika Nation are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one coaching to Indigenous youth on resume writing, interview preparation, and workplace readiness.

  • Present to Indigenous youth in both rural and urban schools and assist with completing the CAREERS internship application.

  • Collaborate with school grad coaches and support staff to identify the needs and opportunities for youth in their communities.

  • Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous employers and organizations to create internship opportunities for youth.

  • Work closely with CAREERS Program Coordinators and other team members to strategize and implement internship goals.

  • Accurately enter data, metrics, and event information into a database and track interactions with students, schools, employers, and community members.

  • Follow up with Indigenous youth and employers to ensure a smooth transition to internships and promote job retention.

  • Engage with Indigenous communities and their summer student programs to assist with internship placements and provide career awareness.

  • Participate in community support networks with organizations such as Friendship Centers and regional employment centers.

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities and Métis settlements within the region.

  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience or training in education, career counseling, Indigenous studies, social work, or a related field.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment to identify and pursue opportunities aligned with program goals.

  • Self-starter with the ability to research and make cold calls to organizations within the region.

  • Skilled in delivering both virtual and in-person presentations.

  • Strong knowledge of Indigenous culture and a commitment to Truth & Reconciliation.

  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with youth, employers, and community organizations.

  • Previous experience working with Indigenous youth, life skills coaching, or career counseling is preferred.

  • Proven experience in planning and contributing to career awareness events and experiential learning opportunities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Access to a personal cellular phone (compensation for use provided) and reliable internet connection.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word), Microsoft Teams, and databases.

  • A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle, as travel within the region is required.

  • Must provide a clean Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Check.

Preference may be given to candidates who identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit.
