Position Description

Surrey Place is seeking a motivated Development Officer to support the Philanthropy team in advancing fundraising and donor engagement initiatives. This role provides hands-on experience in donor relations, event planning, communications, and data management. Working closely with the philanthropy team, the officer helps strengthen relationships with donors and community partners to further the organization’s mission. This role is a great introduction to non-profit management, including how non-profits govern, operate and fundraise.

Main Responsibilities

The duties of the Development Officer are but not limited to:

  • Assist with donor stewardship activities, including preparing thank-you letters and updating donor records.
  • Support the planning and execution of fundraising events and campaigns.
  • Conduct research on prospective donors and community partners.
  • Support grant and funder applications.
  • Create and update communication materials such as newsletters.
  • Provide administrative support, including data entry, scheduling, and filing.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education is preferred.
  • Good communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet assigned deadlines.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • The successful candidate must provide an acceptable Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector Screening).
  • Fluency in French is considered an asset.

Eligibility

Eligibility for this position is contingent upon meeting the following requirements:

  • Must be between 15 and 30 years of age.
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with applicable provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Surrey Place values the diverse and intersectional identities of its staff, clients and families and regards equity and neurodiversity as fundamental at all levels of our organization. We are seeking applicants who embrace our values of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA). We encourage candidates from Indigenous and equity seeking groups such as those from Black and racialized communities, people with disabilities, women and 2SLGBTQ+.
