Job Description

Who we are

At Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, we believe education is more than the pursuit of knowledge – it is a catalyst for transformation. Our mission, grounded in democratizing education, is to create access for learners from every background and empower them to achieve their aspirations and advance their careers.

We are committed to delivering rigorous, flexible programs that are both personally fulfilling and professionally rewarding, while contributing to the betterment of society. Since 2004, Yorkville has been among Canada’s few private, for-profit, fully accredited degree-granting universities, with campuses in Ontario, British Columbia, and New Brunswick. Together with Toronto Film School, we offer creative and academic pathways at both the college and university levels, cultivating a multidisciplinary environment where innovation and the arts converge.

Our community is vibrant and diverse. Many of our learners are adults balancing education with careers and personal commitments. Every member of our team – whether in teaching, operations, or technology – is dedicated to removing barriers and expanding access. Together, we deliver flexible, industry-informed learning that leads to meaningful opportunities.

At our core is human connection – guiding people to reimagine their futures in a community defined by opportunity, creativity, and growth.

Who we need

Reporting to the Director, Advancement and Career Services, we are hiring a Career Services Coordinator for The Toronto Film School. Working closely with the Employer Engagement & Partnerships Specialist, you will provide essential career development support to our learners. This role involves delivering one-on-one career guidance, ensuring the smooth delivery of career-related programs, and supporting TFS student-centred events.

This is an existing full-time role, working 1 day remotely and 4 days on-site at our new headquarters at 120 Bloor Street East.

What’s in it for you

Industry connection. Toronto Film School sits at the intersection of education and the creative industries. You will work closely with learners preparing to enter fields such as film, design, writing, and gaming while building relationships with studios, employers, and industry professionals. Through events, partnerships, and employer engagement, you will gain direct exposure to the evolving creative talent ecosystem.

Impact. This is a highly visible, student-facing role supporting learners and alumni as they transition into the workforce. You will guide career development activities, facilitate industry connections, and help learners translate their education into meaningful opportunities. Your work will directly contribute to graduate success and the strength of Toronto Film School’s creative community.

Career development. Yorkville University is a progressive, forward-thinking, innovative education centre. You will join an organization that inspires change, nurtures collaboration, supports faculty and learners in their journey, and continuously innovates. This role offers the chance for someone with an entrepreneurial, growth-oriented mindset to accelerate their career. As we continue to scale, there will be opportunities to expand into alumni engagement, program advising, or broader operational leadership.

How will you make an impact

  • Serve as a primary point of contact. You will respond to student inquiries related to career services and provide individualized support with résumé and cover letter writing, LinkedIn profile development, and basic job search strategies under the guidance of the Employer Engagement & Partnerships Specialist. You will assist in coordinating and delivering career development workshops, mock interviews, and related programming.
  • Provide administrative support. You will work with the team to maintain accurate records of student interactions and event participation. You will update and maintain the Career Services website and Career Services SharePoint pages in accordance with industry trends.
  • Coordinate events. You will support the planning, organization, and execution of Career and Alumni events with all relevant stakeholders, including Program Directors, Project Manager(s) and others.
  • Track outcomes and data. You will collect and manage KPIs and student data systematically, leveraging Excel and other tools, to inform team strategy and reporting. You will identify trends and areas for improvement to enhance career service delivery.

What you bring:

  • The education and experience. You have a Bachelor’s degree or advanced diploma in Communications, Social Work, Career Coaching, or a related field. You have experience in a coordinator or administrative support role, ideally within a post-secondary environment supporting students. You are service-oriented and take pride in delivering a high level of support to learners, alumni, and internal stakeholders.
  • The industry and career development knowledge. You have an understanding of career development principles and the early-career pathways common in creative fields such as film, design, marketing, social media, video games, or emerging digital industries. Ideally, you have experience working with students in creative programs and can assess resumes thoughtfully and tactfully. You are able to identify students who may be a strong fit for opportunities and connect them with the right individuals or organizations to support their career growth.
  • The communication and facilitation skills. You are a confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence. You are comfortable speaking to groups and delivering workshops on topics such as résumé development, networking, and interview preparation, both in person and virtually. You build trust easily with learners, alumni, academic leaders, and industry partners, and you communicate information clearly and professionally.
  • The judgement and collaboration. You are comfortable working in a support role within an established team. You know when to act independently and when to defer decisions or escalate issues appropriately. You bring sound judgement when working with students, particularly when assessing readiness for industry opportunities or advising on next steps.
  • The adaptability and organization. You thrive in dynamic environments where priorities shift and multiple initiatives move forward simultaneously. You are proactive, organized, and resourceful, and you are comfortable supporting both student-facing activities and event coordination. You are willing to work occasional evenings or weekends to support events and industry engagement activities.
  • The technical skills. You are comfortable working with data and tracking metrics related to student engagement or event outcomes. You are highly proficient with the Microsoft Office suite, including Teams and SharePoint. Experience with event or project management platforms such as Eventbrite or Wrike is an asset, as is familiarity with online community platforms such as Discord.

Why work at Yorkville University and Toronto Film School?

At Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, we are united by a shared purpose: placing the student experience at the heart of everything we do. Whether you are teaching, designing curriculum, advising learners, advancing technology, or supporting operations, your work directly fuels learning potential, strengthens inclusive communities, and fosters purposeful curiosity.

Here, professional growth is part of our culture. In your role, you will have opportunities that allow you to access relevant programs, expand your expertise, and access tuition-free courses across our institutions - from certificates to master’s degrees. Curiosity, initiative, and innovation are encouraged, and your ideas can move from vision to reality.

Our scale offers the best of both worlds: the reach and stability of a national institution combined with the agility of a mid-sized organization, where contributions are visible and valued. You will be part of a diverse and inclusive community where authenticity is celebrated, collaboration is expected, and impact is shared - on learners, colleagues, and your own professional journey.

At Yorkville and Toronto Film School, your work does more than make a difference. It empowers others to achieve their potential, while giving you the opportunity to realize yours.

Compensation philosophy

At Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, we believe compensation should be fair, straightforward, and supportive of your growth. Our salary ranges reflect progression from learning in the role to excelling, with each offer based on skills, experience, and role complexity.

This position offers a minimum annual salary of $50,000, a midpoint of $55,000, and a maximum of $60,000. Established hires typically start near the midpoint, while the upper range is reserved for those with deep expertise and sustained contributions. Offers below the midpoint recognize strong potential with room to grow.

We strive for equitable, consistent pay, though rates may vary within the same role based on performance, specialized knowledge, and impact.

We welcome conversations about compensation throughout the hiring process.

Join us

We welcome and appreciate candidates with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. If you have 70% of the qualifications we seek, express your interest.

What you can expect from our hiring process:

  • A virtual interview with a Talent Advisor discussing your interest in the role and your experience. The conversation will be recorded using BrightHire, an AI-powered video interview tool. More details will be shared when you are invited to interview.
  • A virtual interview with the Employer Engagement & Partnerships Specialist. This meeting will focus on how your experience aligns with the responsibilities of the role and the needs of the team and learners.
  • An Excel assessment. You will complete a short exercise designed to assess your comfort working with data and spreadsheets.
  • An in-person interview with the Director of Strategic Initiatives. This final step will provide an opportunity to discuss the team’s strategic priorities and future plans. You will also have the chance to visit the campus and tour the facilities.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are critical components of life at Yorkville University and Toronto Film School, and we are committed to making these values an integral part of our culture. We encourage applications from all qualified applicants, including women, persons with disabilities, Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC), people from the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Transsexual, Queer, Questioning, Two-Spirit, Intersex, Asexual + (LGBTQ2SIA+) community and other equity-seeking groups.
