Position overview : Capilano Golf and Country Club is seeking a Fleet and Purchasing Manager to oversee the maintenance, lifecycle planning, and replacement of approximately $3 million in Club equipment. Working from a state-of-the-art facility completed in 2017 and in close collaboration with the Golf Course Superintendent, the successful candidate will plan and execute preventative maintenance programs, support annual capital equipment procurement, define equipment life cycles to guide long-term fleet planning, and contribute to the development of annual capital and operating fleet budgets. The position supervises two equipment technicians and places a strong emphasis on fostering a positive, respectful, and professional work environment.
Club Information : Constructed in 1938 by esteemed Canadian golf course architect Stanley Thompson, Capilano is a private 18-hole facility located in West Vancouver, British Columbia and is open for play year-round. Capilano is consistently ranked in the top 10 golf courses in Canada and ranked in the top 100 golf courses in the world outside the United States.
The Club is dedicated to the ongoing restoration and enhancement of the golf course through a comprehensive Course Long Range Master Plan that has been in place for several years, with exciting course improvement projects in planning for the near future. Operating from a state-of-the-art Maintenance and Fleet Facility, our high-performance Course and Grounds team, comprised of up to 40 dedicated professionals, takes pride in producing exceptional playing conditions.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of the Equipment Standards Manual.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop Equipment Technicians, fostering collaboration, productivity, and high standards of workmanship with an emphasis on a positive and respectful workplace.
- Plan and implement a timely and detailed preventative maintenance program for all turf maintenance, utility and other club vehicles.
- Oversee diagnostics, maintenance, and rebuilding of diesel, gasoline, mixed fuel, propane, hydraulic, and electrical equipment.
- Manage equipment maintenance budgets and maintain accurate fleet, parts, inventory, and cost records.
- Collaborate with the Course Superintendent on operating and capital equipment planning and purchasing.
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team-based environment.
- Communicate regularly with the Superintendent team to support departmental priorities.
- Represent the department professionally with staff, members, vendors, and consultants.
- Monitor equipment performance, breakdowns, and operator issues, conducting course inspections as required.
- Stay current with industry best practices by attending conferences, trade shows, and training opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC safety standards and maintain a clean, safe, and professional facility.
- Apply sound mechanical judgment to balance cost control, equipment longevity, and resale value.
Qualifications
Post-secondary mechanical training or certification in turf equipment management, diesel, automotive, or a related mechanical discipline.Minimum 5 years experience in equipment maintenance or in a similar field of expertise. Specific turf equipment experience is preferred but not essential.Hold, or demonstrate a strong commitment toward achieving, a relevant Red Seal designation.Possess, a valid British Columbia driver’s license.Compensation
