Salary: $90,000 - $180,000

As an Estimator you report to the Chief Estimator and will prepare and submit estimates on behalf of Hall Constructors. This position contributes to the overall organization by bidding on various types of work and handing over successful bids to the project team. This role primarily interacts with the estimating team, Chief Estimator, VP of Estimating, and Project Coordinators with the goal of project pursuit and acquisition. Coordination and communication with the operations staff is key to ensure feedback from ongoing projects and input for creating estimates. Contact with clients, subcontractors, and vendors will also be required and the utmost professionalism is expected during these interactions. You will be responsible for all aspects of estimating including reviewing bid documents, measuring quantities, developing first principal estimates, procuring and comparing quotes from vendors and subs, and preparing and submitting proposals.

Your day-to-day will look like:

• Support estimating team with competent and timely work.
• Work within the framework of Halls estimating and project management guidelines and best practices.
• Manage all takeoffs for the estimate, including assigned Intern or Project Coordinator.
• Read and understand contract documents and specifications
• Collaborate with other estimators and project coordinators to deliver a competitive bid.
• Communicate with clients and sub-contractors about the estimate frequently throughout the process.
• Maintain accurate bid folders by organizing all addendums, quotes, drawings, and documents.
• Attend all Estimators meetings and on/off-site bid meetings.
• Continue to keep up-to-date on current standards and practices in the industry.

You have the following qualifications, technical and interpersonal skills:

Qualifications:

• Must be eligible to work in Canada.
• Must demonstrate excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Candidates should have a minimum of four (4) years of experience in the construction industry.
• A minimum of two (2) years of independent civil estimating experience is required in one or more of the following areas:
  • Underground Municipal Utilities
  • Underground Third-Party Utilities
  • Excavation and Shoring
  • Piling and Foundation Improvements
  • Subdivision and/or Townhouse Developments
  • Paving and Concrete Flatwork
  • Civil Structures
• Post-secondary education in Engineering or a related field is preferred (Bachelors degree an asset).
  

Technical Skills:

• Proficient in MS Office Suite, including Teams, Excel, Outlook, and Word.
• Skilled in Bluebeam for markups and quantity takeoff processes.
• Experienced with HCSS HeavyBid, Halls current estimating software.
• Solid Understanding of the full estimating cycle, from quantity takeoff through submission to contract award.
• Strong document organization and file management abilities.
• Typing speed of 50 WPM with 95% accuracy.
• Proficient in performing accurate quantity takeoffs for a range of civil scopes, including:
  • Earthworks cut and fill, road cross-sections, retaining wall, bulk/detail excavation.
  • Deep and Shallow Utilities storm, sanitary, and water.
  • Flatworks curbs, asphalt, sidewalks, driveways, and medians.
  • Miscellaneous Civil Takeoffs ESC, bypass pumping, manholes, landscaping, and related items
