BTPS is actively looking for substitute teachers to join our team. You must submit your completed application online through Apply to Education. You will be contacted through your email address if you have been approved or not.

Application requirements

• Cover letter : addressed to Ms. Camille Quinton, Assistant Superintendent Human Resources, requesting authorization to teach in our division
• Resume : includes a chronological listing of previous teaching experience (grade / subject) and IFX and AFX placements
• 3 Professional references : must include email contact information listed in the resume (letters may be included). If you just completed a placement within BTPS, we will accept a letter from the principal and / or cooperating teacher
• Void personal cheque attached
• Signed and witnessed (the witness cannot be a spouse or relative)
• Must have at least one school selected
• Alberta Teaching Certificate : copy uploaded to profile
• Original Criminal Record Check : within the last 6 months; submit the original to the central office, and it will be returned to you at your request
• Original TQS statement : if issued yet, submit copy; you may be approved to sub without a TQS, but it may impact payment at grid
• Statements of Years of Experience : from previous employing boards

Documents must be completely filled in. For example, you will be asked for your SIN on the employee form, and you must also fill it in on both the tax forms.

Sub Booking and Payroll

Each school is responsible for calling the individual sub and using the EasyConnect call-out system. In some cases, teachers book their own subs, and in some cases, administrative assistants or principals are responsible for the process. School office staff ensure substitute timesheets are completed correctly and signed for payment to the central office.

Payroll : Each month, you will complete a BTPS substitute teacher timesheet at each school you sub at. The school staff will forward forms to the central office for payment. Direct deposit is on the 10th of the following month. The rate for subbing can be found in Article 5 of the ATA Collective Agreement on our website. The pay information is uploaded to the Employee Self-Service Web-Based Program. Paper copies are not mailed unless you are unable to access electronically. In February, your T4 will be uploaded to the same site.

Notify payroll in writing if personal information changes. Our preferred communication method is email to hrteachers@btps.ca.

Please note that if you accept a teaching position with another Board or become unavailable to sub, you must notify us so that we can remove you from the substitute list and issue your ROE.
