What is the Opportunity?
As part of Aecon’s Utilities sector, the Aecon Utility Engineering (AUE) team plays a pivotal role in supporting construction through in-house engineering expertise. We are seeking a Design Project Manager to lead end-to-end utility design projects for electrical distribution and other utility portfolios, ensuring projects meet scope, schedule, and quality standards while maintaining regulatory compliance.
What You'll Do Here:
- Responsible for the financial performance of the design portfolio, including managing budgets, revenue forecasting, WIP tracking, margin management, and preparing project cost estimates and quotes
- Oversee the end-to-end delivery of utility design projects, review compliance with electrical distribution standards, ESA, CSA, and municipal permitting requirements and review project estimates
- Put in place and lead multi-disciplinary design teams (designers, drafters, engineers), managing workload balancing, resourcing, project assignment and mentoring internal and external staff
- Implement QA/QC processes and maintain risk registers, issue logs, and mitigation plans to ensure design attainments are met and projects are issued for construction as per client plans
- Maintain relationship with major clients and lead project meetings to provide updates on status, potential design issues, and workload
- Hold meetings with clients, internal design team and coordinate with construction team on project related concerns
- Respond to RFPs and bid on new design opportunities while ensuring all activities align with corporate strategic plans
What You Bring to the Team:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in utility design, power distribution, or stations projects, with at least 3 years in a project management role with financial accountability
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical or civil engineering or an equivalent technical diploma (C.E.T.). A P.Eng, C.E.T., or PMP certification is strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of utility standards, underground/overhead design practices, and municipal permitting processes
- Sound computer skills, specifically in MS Project , SAP and Excel for cost/schedule tracking, and familiarity with design tools like AutoCAD or MicroStation
- Proven leadership, communication, and negotiation skills with the ability to work independently and accurately under pressure and self motivated
- Inspire and foster an environment of cooperation between different departments and coworkers
- Availability to travel to site visits within the GTA and various locations in Canada as required

Pay Range: $70,000 - $100,000
Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
