Overview
The Corporate Payroll Supervisor / Manager will oversee end-to-end payroll operations across Canada and the U.S., ensuring accuracy, compliance, and continuous process improvement. This role manages day-to-day payroll execution while serving as a key payroll subject matter expert and strategic partner to HR, Finance, and external vendors.
Responsibilities
Process and audit bi-weekly and supplemental payrolls accurately and on timeOversee payroll transactions, approvals, exemptions, and adjustmentsServe as the primary point of contact for payroll inquiries, reconciliations, and system updatesPartner with HR to ensure timely processing of new hires, terminations, and payroll changesAudit payroll data to confirm accuracy of accounts, taxes, payment dates, and controlsDevelop and maintain payroll quality controls and compliance processesPrepare monthly, annual, and ad hoc payroll reportsLead payroll year-end activities and reconciliations (EHT, WSIB, T4, T4A, W2, etc.)Manage relationships with third-party tax providers for filings, amended returns, and jurisdictional compliancePrepare and reconcile CRA and IRS statements, deductions, and tax slipsReconcile payroll-related GL accounts, including taxes, benefits, and liabilitiesCollaborate with Finance, HR, Internal Audit, and cross-functional partners on system and process improvementsMaintain up-to-date knowledge of Canadian and U.S. payroll legislation and regulatory changesEnsure accurate and timely submission of Records of Employment (ROEs) and respond to government inquiriesSupport U.S. and Canadian benefits administration, vendor payments, and reconciliationsAssist with external payroll compliance audits and year-end reportingQualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field10+ years of full-cycle payroll experience, including 3+ years in payroll leadershipBilingual in French(preferred) and English(required)Strong knowledge of Canadian and U.S. payroll legislation, taxation, and labor standardsProven experience managing payroll year-end and compliance reportingHigh level of discretion when handling sensitive employee dataStrong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to meet critical deadlinesCertifications
PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) – requiredCPM (Certified Payroll Manager) – strongly preferredCanadian National Payroll Institute standards preferredTechnical Skills
